Autocorrect Christmas

By Paisleyfrog on Yesterday 6:05 pm

A 90º turn from last week - time for a loungey torch song.

Like so many projects, this came about from texting with my wife. I mentioned that I needed to do a Christmas song this week. She says "Death Metal Santa". Which made me think about making a typo and sending the wish list to Satan...which lead to all sorts of typo Christmas Carols (the beginning of the chorus jumped out right then). Landed on doing it as a torch song pretty quickly. I was texting to ask if she would sing almost simultaneously as she was offering to sing - "You write it, I'll sing it!".

One of the thoughts was to try and blend together as many snippets of Christmas carols together as possible. The idea survived a little bit in the second solo. Just some goofy fun smile

The track is once again mostly session musicians...I can define the chords, but certainly can't play piano like this. Made it very easy to change to a key my wife was happy with. It still allows for some nice opportunity to blend things, though: I played the solo and the tinkly outro part, and turned off one hand in the session player to make it sound reasonably believable. I like how it turned out. I spent most of my time getting back into trumpet for the week (first time since week 20)...and figuring out my trumpet key relative to the song. Transposing instruments always takes me a bit to wrap my head around.

you two are a unstoppable creative duo!
This theme is PERFECT and the lyrics are amazing.
Wreck the halls lol Addressed to Satan
And on top of it all, everything is perfectly recorded and mixed.

That is some delicious lounge music, your wife's voice is as versatile as your music, both very impressive.  3.20 was some clever piano work.  I actually laughed out loud at some of the lyrics, wreck the halls is going to stay with me for quite some time I think smile
