Autocorrect Christmas

By Paisleyfrog on December 22, 2024 6:05 pm

A 90º turn from last week - time for a loungey torch song.

Like so many projects, this came about from texting with my wife. I mentioned that I needed to do a Christmas song this week. She says "Death Metal Santa". Which made me think about making a typo and sending the wish list to Satan...which lead to all sorts of typo Christmas Carols (the beginning of the chorus jumped out right then). Landed on doing it as a torch song pretty quickly. I was texting to ask if she would sing almost simultaneously as she was offering to sing - "You write it, I'll sing it!".

One of the thoughts was to try and blend together as many snippets of Christmas carols together as possible. The idea survived a little bit in the second solo. Just some goofy fun smile

The track is once again mostly session musicians...I can define the chords, but certainly can't play piano like this. Made it very easy to change to a key my wife was happy with. It still allows for some nice opportunity to blend things, though: I played the solo and the tinkly outro part, and turned off one hand in the session player to make it sound reasonably believable. I like how it turned out. I spent most of my time getting back into trumpet for the week (first time since week 20)...and figuring out my trumpet key relative to the song. Transposing instruments always takes me a bit to wrap my head around.

you two are a unstoppable creative duo!
This theme is PERFECT and the lyrics are amazing.
Wreck the halls lol Addressed to Satan
And on top of it all, everything is perfectly recorded and mixed.

That is some delicious lounge music, your wife's voice is as versatile as your music, both very impressive.  3.20 was some clever piano work.  I actually laughed out loud at some of the lyrics, wreck the halls is going to stay with me for quite some time I think smile

Wow, this is a seriously good production! 100% see this in the Christmas lounge, +1 on lament.configs lounge comment. Cool theme and idea, Jingle balls yes, and Silent Fight is a good one haha.

Nice one, wish you a great autocorrect Christmas!

Next time I wanna hear Death Metal Santa big_smile

I love it. That trumpet is so tastefully blended. I can’t believe the piano is a session player. It seriously sounds like a really good musician responding to the other musicians in the group. Lyrics are funny. I love the Wreck the Halls/ Jingle Balls rhyme. Great job. Merry Christmas!

a new Christmas Classic! excellent work, you two

Oh thank you smile She had so much fun going low and torchy on this. We did one scratch earlier in the week so i could get music set, and then she did the final on Sunday - one take and done. She's so good heart

Thank you! I still want to do death metal Santa, too. Hmmm, still trying to figure out what to do for week 52...

Murray Cross Mess to you as well!

Wait, no.

Thank you! I'm pretty pleased with the piano player, too. I gave it a LOT of chord transitions to switch things up inside of measures, and dialed up the fill to over halfway. But man...as primarily a bassist, I'm even more blown away by the upright player. So good, and I'm not even mad.

Thanks! big_smile I think that's my favorite line in this, both with where the melody goes and the lyric. I sang this to my wife when I was first writing it so she could get the tune in her ear - she laughed too LOL

"jingle balls" is such ultimate perfection, hahahahaha... This is seriously hilarious, I am so happy you made it and decided to share it here. This is the light hearted song I needed to listen to right now thank you SO MUCH, hahahahaha... Srsly, amazing heart

Considering autocorrect learns from your typing behavior, you must have some very wild rest of the year. Very swanky, can really dig the vibe.

Okay apart from the perfect torch song (and may I say you wife might have found her vocal calling - she is amazing here) and beautiful arrangement, I can't help but be amazed at the fact that you cook up clever/hilarious/moving lyrics every week along with unique, genre-spanning music. It's like you're doing three times the work like it's nothing. The mind boggles; the heart appreciates.

This is such a huge compliment, thank you heart (Also, I've been singing "jingle balls" to myself all week.)

Thanks! We had a ton of fun making it. (Makes me wonder about the kind of typos that were happening around Easter big_smile )

Thank you so much. It's been amazing this year letting the creativity run around like a squirrel with ADHD. I think I've finally embraced the whiplash...I'm gonna make up a Paisleyfrog Bandcamp and just let all the styles coexist in different albums.

Also, I read your comment to my wife last night, she was so pleased. I asked if she wanted to do a lounge album next year and she said, "HELL YEAH." smile

New. Christmas. Classic.

The only thing more frustrating than autocorrect (which I turned off weeks ago...) is weekly beats failing to send my comments and dropping words into the void.

I hope you had a wonderful autocorrct xmas! heart

Oh yay, thank you. I have a huge collection of Christmas music, I hope to do justice to the genre smile

Also, I should probably turn off autocorrect as well. I know I've left more than a few somewhat puzzling comments on WB because of it smile

Ha! This is the best Christmas song EVAR! heart

Hahaah! This is SO awesome. Amazing, lyrics, music, singing - perfection.

i'm dreaming of a fright christmas
