I did it! I submitted more than one song for weekly beats.
I set out to make something that had a very distinctive lead line and structure. I also experimented a lot with adding a vocoder, but that was sort of an after thought and all my attempts to add something sounded too forced. But, that did force me to finally learn how to use a DAW. Ardour is actually pretty sick, would totally recommend it (at least for the purpose of adding effects / polishing M8 tracks).
Everything was written with the M8 using patches I created or the excellent drum instruments made by Trash80.
