Hype Train

Yung Grandpa returns!
I had a bad week, my monitor speakers started crackling and popping. Not sure what the culprit is - and I'm currently in conversation with the manufacturer. So all of my plans were waylaid and then I worked on something for a full day and it just didn't work out. I was frustrated and tired and said, "Well, time to pull out the trusty OP-1 and see what happens" and this happened! I recorded the piano with the onboard mic. I thought it was a great beat but felt too tired to write lyrics. But the beat got me TOO HYPE! I wrote these lyrics with a few revisions. I had some asthma complications, but it kind of created a cool raspy quality to the vocals.
Tried to switch up the flow per verse, kind of like cars on a train. Also, the piano riff made me think of a steam engine, chugging along. There is a weird thing where I talk about being 13 years old before being 10 years old, but it didn't make sense to reverse the couplets. Per the lyrical reference, I grew up in Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA and currently live in Franklin, WI - which is south of Milwaukee.
I love rapping over droned bass. I know it makes it hard for mixing/listening but I freaking love it. I also loving doing dueling drum counterpoints. I feel like have gotten better at rapping with every rap track I've done this year. I like keeping it to 16 bars; long enough to feel like actual work, short enough to not be intimidated. Can't wait to make a mixtape of all of this stuff at the end of the year! ...and maybe I'll respond to all the comments before next week's track!!!!!!!!
I AM ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM/NEGATIVE FEEDBACK!
Lyrics:
It’s Yung Grandpa, living it up
Everybody on the hype train, getting it up
Hands up in the crowd, y’all, throwin’ them up
And I hit you with the styles now I’m switching ‘em up
I see you seeing me through the screen
Mom got me a drum kit when I turned thirteen
Had the 4-track and guitars and the kitchen sink
Ten years old coming up beginning Orange Drink
Representing Franklin and Virginia Beach
Going on tour to expand upon my reach
Going insane thinking maybe I should quit
Then I hit ‘em with the rhythm and I’m back up in it
I know you feel a little caught off-guard
You’re thinking: “How can anybody ever rock this hard?”
You see me on the mic; you’ll never be the same
It’s your boy Yung Grandpa, changing the game.
WE ARE HALFWAY DONE!
