Year of Atoms

At the 440th weekly piece, this would have been a good opportunity to do something in the key of A. I wasn't thinking of that, though. It's been a week of illness and recovery, so it was nice to be able to play guitar and bass today. (And yesterday, though I ended up throwing out most of those baselines.)

Drums: Ableton 64 Pad Kit Jazz, with some drums I hadn't been using lately. Automated send to a delay. Bit of Max Humanizer as well.

Guitar: PureSalem Mendiola with no effects. Rhythm track was both pickups, while the lead track was just the bridge pickup. (The more of these I do, the more I'm inclined to plug in without a bunch of inline effects.) There's some send to a convolution reverb.

Bass: the usual 80s Epiphone Embassy II, neck pickup. EQ-8 for low-end rolloff. A bit of convolution reverb send.

The title comes from Democritus first proposing the idea of indivisible particles in 440 BCE.

Stay well, everyone. This latest wave is rather easy to catch.

440 WBs is amazing―congratulations!  And on the great sound you've got here.

I had to explain the key of A comment to my SO, which was fun.

Oh wow

Really like the bass tone. Feels like a fun improvised jam.

Simple, calming groove. Superb use of stereo panning. Congrats on 440 wbs and love the homage to A. For that I give you an A+

smooth as ever

oh sir - coming down from some serious anxiety & this piece came on & it felt like a weighted blanket set on me - hoping you and the family are feeling better and better by the day!

Oh wow

Thank you! Yeah, I did this one in B, which...well, that's a good key, too.

Thank you! I do mostly compose by improvising parts against each other, so it's nice that that comes through.

Thank you! The panning is interesting--I tend to pan tracks to a position and leave them there. So the panning effect here is two guitars ping-ponging off each other.

Thank you, Emily! Each day's progressively better. I'm so glad you liked this week's track!
