Vermilion

By onezero on April 19, 2026 4:47 pm

This one started in a late Friday session with a theme that didn't end up in the final piece, but which set the time signature as 6/4. The timing is kind of elastic--it's mostly on, but some things creep a little ahead, or have a little breath in front of them. I didn't end up moving any of those, so you hear them as they're recorded.

Three tracks of PureSalem Mendiola, no inline effects, bit of convolution reverb, and the usual compression/eq/limiting on the stereo mix. If there was a challenge with this one, it was editing this down--the slow tempo makes for some long sections. (In retrospect, maybe I shouldn't have cut quite so much.)

The title comes from the prominence of Vermilion peak in Colorado: 642m.

I'm always a fan of that 6/4 feel.  Soothing melodies over those lush chords.  The strums and pacing settled me so nicely. heart

a great cadence to this. ****callllmmmmmm*****

Listening before reading your description, I didn't notice the 6/4 time signature! This piece so naturally flows, it makes perfect sense, and hence I didn't notice the time signature was something other than the usual 4/4.

Wonderful, calm, reflective, spacious. Your pieces are always a delight. Well done on this one!

Really pleasant riffs. I like the change around 2:24.

so lovely
