Lost River

By onezero on March 15, 2026 5:18 pm

Three tracks of PureSalem Mendiola in standard tuning, no pedals. (The both-pickups channel probably could have used some JHS Colourbox, but I didn't patch it in.) There's a touch of send to a convolution reverb and the usual multiband compression/eq effect rack on the stereo mix.

I started this one with the first melody you hear, around the 12th fret, thinking I could shake things up a bit, and then realized it's in E, and had a strong pull to being I-IV-V. Oh well. I'm pretty sure I've used that one three-note motif before. Too trite? It's what I had this week, so in it goes: probably better to go with a more insistent melody rather than something that avoids it.

The title comes from the 637ft. elevation of Lost River, IN.

this track makes me feel like i'm floating in a canoe on the lost river

i wonder if i've seen the lost river and not known it - that part of indiana is real pretty in the hoosier national forest

Very nice, made my day to hear this. Thank you

Lovely tune! The guitar tone is in the sweet spot. This kept me locked in the whole way.

This is my fav track this week. Just sitting here taking some deep breaths and floating away...beautiful!

oh man, this is great. So relaxing

Oh wow, stunning.

i am also in the canoe. heart
this is so pretty and calming. does not feel trite to me. i think it's a strength to be able to shape something that feels fresh & present out of a well-worn pathway. something i wager the Lost River knows about  smile

Such a lovely guitar tone each note has such a pleasant sound to it.  I can't even describe it but some of those notes just hit so nicely especially on the bendy ones smile (piano dude can't describe guitar, sorry lol)  Excellent work as always!

This is beautiful, utterly mesmerising. A full downstream journey in a piece.
It feels comforting and familiar, yet there was plenty in there that caught me unawares.
I was happy to let the Lost River float me whichever way it went.

Thank you! There aren't so many bends in these, but I do a lot of glissandos, particularly sliding the barre chords around.

Oh wow--thank you all! Something really manifested itself in this one!

A safe progression, maybe, but very comfortable.
