Heavy Death Zone

BAD PEDAL WEEK!!!!!!!

Decided to get a few......lets say troublesome, pedals out of the way early. They definitely aren't great, really difficult to pull a tone, so I totally cheated and used my '85 Son of Boogie (an odd sort of Mesa Mk1 Reissue) the way its clean channel can sort of replace the treble section of any pedal is a little unique to the mark series, something to do with the way the EQ is pre-gain stage so it can act like a front end filter.

A very rushed attempt at "symphonic" black metal, in quotes because keyboard skills lol

Pedals used:
Digitech Death Metal: It doesn't even have a gain control, totally over the top and brittle sounding
Boss Metal Zone: So many people say its not the pedal its how you use it, but if it takes that much work to get a tone its not great
Boss HM2 Heavy Metal Clone: Used more like a drive for some mid gain leads
MXR EchoPlex: Vintage tape style delay, quite lovely actually
Homebuilt 3 Mode Reverb: A nice reverb I built a while ago, really nice modulated verb settings

Cool track. Really enjoyed the journey. Great choice of riff for the break at 4:30.

Awesome, I don't feel so alone now writing death metal tunes on weekly beats! haha. Honestly for "bad" pedals, the doesn't sound bad at all. I mean I definitely hear some scritchy high end on some of them but honestly that can be played off as an aesthetic choice. Overall this track is hella brutal, just absolutely relentless and the ending clean section is an excellent chord progression to wrap things up on with the solo.

Fucking brutal. Nicely done.

Cheers dude, both pedals had the treble actually on zero, and they are still scratchy as fuck lol, but the mesa made them playable at least! So it is definitely any pedal can work if its into the right amp, but it can be surprising which amp will work on the day

Mmmm, me likey! So brutal, but melodic enough to quench my tastes smile Having mad producer skillz is definitely helpful for dealing with these pedals of... questionable design.

Hell yeah dude, this is awesome.  Totally getting some Dimmu Borgir vibes.  Very well performed and mixed, sounds great!

Damn, that just blew me away out of nowhere.

I love that you are going on this pedal tour.

This is really great!  I really hate Boss Metal Zone but probably because everyone who overuses is really into that thin-tin foil sound!

You really have some serious chops, my friend!

4:31 breakdown was sick
