AtTheGatesCore

By Nyarlos on May 15, 2022 10:49 pm

Was watching one of my YouTube regulars who did a video on a metal core genre he dubbed "at the gates core" which I found quite hilarious. Basically melodic death metal mixed with more metal core ideas, so I got out my Dual Rectifier and had at it. Was never actually a huge melodic death metal fan, there's a couple of albums that work, but in general, a bit too pretty and blast-less for me, but they did have really good melodic solos, so tried to channel a bit of that. Also noticed how the newer versions of these bands seemed to always have a chug riff with a melody over the top, so got out another chorus pedal and away we go!

Pedals:
Fender YJM Overdrive: Yngwie Malmsteen special. More is More!!!!! But not actually a bad drive when used moderately, I think its the Original Dod OD250 preamp circuit.
Tom's Line Bluesy: A really good cheap version of a Blues Driver, more actual distortion than a tube screamer, with less mid bump.
Danelectro Chorus: Might be the last of my Danelectro collection, but again, cheap as, and did exactly what I wanted here, a spacey movement filled melodic line.

So grindy!

"How can less be more? It is impossible! More is More!" - i go back to this Malmsteem videos on a regular basis, it never fails to make me laugh.
The tone is sick in this track - the mix of really aggressive sound that still has a lot of body.

It's a shame, because these melodies are pretty nice and I'm sure you can put a blast in there somewhere
