We Supersonic (feat. Curtis Smith)

By NWSPR on May 6, 2018 2:59 am

This morning I was up in the Catskills cutting fallen trees with a chainsaw and blasting old school electronic club music. By late afternoon I was back in Brooklyn in the studio.  Curtis had some new high hats so we jammed on an electronic track. TR-8 and Casio VL-Tone drum tracks with Curtis playing Roland / Simmons bastard kit with Zildjian edge cymbals through a Tascam 8x16 rack into Logic.  King Korg and Minilogue synthesizers and a Roland vocoder. We had a lot of fun with this one and got the rough tracks down in about an hour which wasn't too bad. Hope you like it, and Happy cinco de mayo!

Super fun track.  Love the vocoder and the sick beats.

Drums are very cool smile
And that lead melody has a nice retro touch...
Good jam!

Dance robot, dance! Squelchy lead is very cool.

Casio VL-Tone in da house, such a classic blip! Really fun jam, every piece gets its time to shine and then fusion back into a mesmerizing beat big_smile Supersonic indeed!

Oof, those drums pack some punch! Nice arrangement and setup here man big_smile

Sounds like everyone had a good time making this one.

Definitely, I was listening to some 80s hip hop and electronic music that morning and wanted to do something similar although couldn't totally nail the vibe.

Thanks, I love the VL-Tone purchased on Ebay some years back. I should try and sample it into Curtis' kit so he can mimic the fills.

Yes, Curtis comes up with some good beats. I like how he counters his snare hits and rolls to compliment the drum machine and not compete with it.

We did. Fun track.  I look forward to polishing it up a bit in a future mix.

Thanks for listening!

You're literally rockin' the Catskills. smile

Great electro vibe here.  Especially love the vocoder and the pingy tones that I assume are from the TR-8.

Awwwwww hell yes.  This works on every level--tasty vocoder, ultra-compelling groove, outstanding drum sounds and beats.   I could totally see this as a great lost electro single someone unearthed while crate-digging.  (Put fake vinyl noise on it, and all the collectors will lose their minds.)  Outstanding!

Excellent!  The unmistakable Casio VL-Tone beat.  Haha.

Yeah, and that's the real shit.  No sample.  I'm a pack rat.

I've got one in the collection myself.  From when I was a kid even.  OG ya'll.  tongue
