Snow Chaser

By NWSPR on January 19, 2020 5:11 pm

Pleasantly trapped in the mountains with first significant snow fall of the year, plug in the EV to recharge and sit by the fire with DAW sound library and compose while watching the white out and Katie watches Columbo with a glass of wine. She solves the mystery and I get the song. No hardware to report other than laptop and headphones (oh, and Arturia Keystep).  No monitors so the mix may be different that what I hoped for but I had very relaxed time with this and posted a bit earlier than usual.  With a full charge, we'll be heading back to Brooklyn.  All the noise, school boards, and ironically raccoons more than rats.

Looking forward to hearing your tracks.  Hope you are having a great week!

This one has a nice upbeat vibe.   A good soundtrack for running out into that newly fallen snow and playing around in it.  Hope it was a nice trip!

Dang, this is awesome!

My girlfriend thought the Ice Cream man was driving by at 7:45 PM and I think that's best compliment ever

Damn, this is such a feel-good tune.  I love it.

Oooh the square lead that comes in a bit after the halfway mark is crisp and floaty like fresh snow! Super cheerful track heart

Great production and love those 80s drum tones.  I just got hold of an old Sequential drum machine but it's glitching out.  So keen to try and fix it as I've been unsuccessful so far.  Lovely FM melodies too.

Nice tune.

Great tune! Sounds kinda like New Order

Good tune! But the story of being in the quiet snowy mointains really gave me some phanasies about skiing or snowboarding...
According to your track its a sunny day and the snow is fresh and fluffy

very uplifting! Much softer than your stuff usually smile Great one, again...

This is great! The beginning especially captures a snow-bound vibe.

dancing in the library smile  great track!

Now this is a jam!

Beautiful synth-pop. It is retro in a very positive way. Can almost feel the snow. Great.

Makes me want to ski down that snowy mountain. Great story.

A very nice trip it was. Super mellow hanging out by the fire, cleaning the pots on my drum machine kind of weekend.  (I don't ski)

That is high praise! Maybe I can do some ice cream truck soundtrack work and earn some extra Chipwich money smile

First winter snow is always fun.  By third snow I'll be doing darkwave drone compositions to shovel by smile

Thanks! Yep fun to play.  I doubled it with a piano in a high register to give it extra lift.  Lots of glockenspiel as well, which I have become fond of in the synth library. Maybe I need to get a real glockenspiel?

I forgot Sequential made a drum machine.  Drum Trax or something like that?  You got to get that thing working.  Would love to hear it in a track.

Thanks!  Not surprising... my playing style is informed by a small number of bands existing in the 80s and 90s with New Order definitely being one of them.  I just watched a documentary about their synthorchestra project a few weeks ago.  The documentary and music was great but their use of the "synth orchestra" was disappointing and unimaginative IMHO.  Still worth checking out: http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2019/05/18/new-order-live-album-manchester-international-festival/

It's more about sitting inside and eating fondue for me.  I don't ski smile Don't break a leg!

Yes, I wanted to do something a bit lighter and cheerier but it comes from a dark place smile I actually envision doing a trilogy of songs like winter ski resort posters that speak to superficiality and chasing a lifestyle.  This week I did the second in the series called Lake Success that in the same theme but a bit more overt with the poem in the outro.

Careful now... enjoy!

THIS is the setup and cabin I saw on instagram. Looked super cozy, hope you had a good time!

Yes, Drum Trax is one of them but this one is called Tom which I believe is part of that series.  The parts have been ordered so fingers crossed!

so perfect!

Excellent groove--sparkly and wintery, but also kind of a snowed-in celebration.
