Mission Improbable

By NWSPR on February 23, 2020 10:58 pm

Sticking with a heavier sound again this week with bass guitar, Behringer model d, hardware and digital drum machines.  Mission Improbable has some good ideas that I like, but could use a better arrangement, and I would prefer to thin it out.      I'll need to live with it for longer before I can start deleting stuff and rearrange. But here it is in its raw form for you consideration and constructive feedback.

I got busy at work last week but hope to catch up on a lot more listening. Hope all is well!

Such a rich mix, everything sits so well! Heavy but very cohesive, great work!

that bass guitar is phat! nice work big_smile

I really like the synths melody lines. Super cool. It sounds really good too. Maybe trying to mix the bass and kick drums so it doesn't fight as much? Anyways, I really like it.

Love the nice big sound.  I don't think there's anything in particular that I would delete out of it.  If you wanted to play with the mix some more you could probably emphasize/de-emphasize various parts, but I think it works as is.

Love how the long melody notes play against that driving rhythm and drum rig. That bass guitar absolutely slaps. Great stuff heart

Nice dude!  That drum beat and bass line really drive this track hard.  I dont even know if I'd delete anything to thin it out, its so intense in a good way.  Maybe just slipping in a breakdown to add some space?

I love the blend of espionage and western themes this has going on, I think I'm getting western vibes from that awesome bass! I'm curious to see what you do if you rework it, it's very engaging as is! Hope you had a good week despite being very busy!

Super crunchy, epic robot-onslaught soundtrack!  Very much digging the arrangement and melodies!

What an awesome way to describe it. Great track, it's got a great flow IMO and I love how heavy it is. Also, listened to the whole thing while watching those ^ robots marching out of the corner of my eye.. perfect.

So omnious.. So "englobing" and engulfing. Amazing march.

Those robots are on a mission! Marching along on their mission. This was fun. Space Western Espionage for sure.

Thick. I feel that something is coming my way and I need to be ready.

this is rad - great energy!

Gab said it best I think with that combo feeling of western meets espionage.  That bassline is super catchy from the start.  The drums have a marching sort of feel to them.  Nice work!

There's intense action going on here, implausible action. Great work with the organ.

everyone said what I was going to say.

supergood. Great work on the syths. Lots of enegie in the track. Keep it there.

This rocks. I really like the bass tone. What kinda bass you playing here?

Thanks! After listening to it this week, I'm at peace with it or at least used to the mix.  Maybe a bit too thick or bassy.

That's 1977 American Gibson. I was lucky to pick it up for nothing, years ago in a pawn shop.  Literally nothing.  Traded some obsolete sampling keyboard for it.

I was struggling with the bass and kick parts.  My temporary fix was "more reverb!"

Yep, I think a simpler bass and drum groove would sound good if I clean up those tracks a bit. Thanks for the feedback!

Lol... It's that marching drums does make it sound like imminent invasion!

Def march feeling.  I was going for a classic Golden Earring rock sound with some goth overtones and seemed to have over shot to full on spaghetti western smile

That's what she said.  Damn, Mission Implausible - better title.

Thanks for checking it out. Can't miss with those Moog sounds.

Thanks! That's the Gibson Ripper circa 1977. Best year for a punk rock bass smile It needs work but I'm afraid to take it into the shop and have it come back sounding different.

Thanks! I'm a fan of repetition smile

Yeah, I have a lot of tracks to work with.  I could drop out some, maybe to just bass and drums in part.  I'll rework later this year.

Funny! You're right but I didn't notice when I was writing the track.  Definitely has a spaghetti western vibe like a heavier Wall of Voodoo sound. Thanks for listening. I'm actually curious to see what it would sound like without the main synths. Really open it up and rely on the bass guitar and drums.  May get back to it later this year.

Love that marching robot graphic. Syncs up nicely. Thanks for listening!

you got the thriller/action mood here perfectly. Relentless and ominous smile

The sound, the mix, the scale and all very cinematic. This is very very cool.
