It's a Human League Weekend

By NWSPR on June 3, 2018 11:58 pm

Once again I am channeling my all time favorite, indulging in, wallowing in Human League with my best Phil Oakey style impression and you, I'm sorry, have stumbled into my Human League weekend.

Sorry about the distortion in the vocals. I got an old beat up Sure 57 mic that is crapping out. Need to get something better. 57s are great in general but this one got dropped on its head too many times.

Hope you're having and will have a good week!

this is great! really nailed that human league vibe!

Great song to start the week with. Danke schön. Perfect music to drive by

You certainly nailed their essence. Fun!

great song to start the week with indeed!  Dank, son.

i'm not familiar with the Human League but I love the style.  nailed the vocals, too!

HA!  I listen to WB tracks with the window minimized then pull it up to comment.  Thought to myself, "This is kind of like Human League" and then saw the track title.

Well, I gotta say, to 100% nailed it.  It's retro and sunny and upbeat and robotic - you know, like a NEW WAVE SOLAR POWERED ROBOT

(took me a few months before I realized that NWSPR was an acronym)

Fantastic sound. The distorted vocals actually fit. Sweet song!

You totally did hit the Oakey vibe there. (I almost want a faster sequenced ostinato for the bass line to get that HL hit-single thing if you wanted to revisit it...). But this is great.  That vocal melody and the delivery really seal the deal.

Very cOoL! Sure i've heard this song before... perhaps in a past 80's life? Great stuff

Nice work.

Yeah this could totally be a lost Human League cut.  The 80's are strong with this.

Nailed it! dem synths heart

Thanks, they have a unique vibe but it is simple, straight forward.

Heart Like a Wheel? Sorry, another Human League reference. Thanks! Keep your hands on the wheel and drive safe smile

Thanks! I could teach a university level course on The Human League... just listening to some more interviews of them this week. My guilty pleasure.

Thanks!  It's all there except with a shitty mic and bad production. I got to up my game, the whole damn mix is distorted.  Just rushing too much.  The Human League has super polished production.  Yes, New Wave Solar Powered Robots.  The name was used as a marketing keyword test on Facebook back when pages and boost posting were introduced.  I had to do a paid media test and was asked for some keywords , anything I was interested in.

Poor Phil. She was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar when she first met him. Or so I hear.

Thanks! I kind of merged the sound of several early albums.  It is an amalgam or averaging across several eras.

Thanks! I love their simple simple pop structure. I was listening to Phil Oakey admit in an interview that he still doesn't know any chords.  It's all monophic passes on synths
