I Got No Convictions

By NWSPR on April 22, 2018 10:43 pm

This track was recorded in a single take live with no prior arrangements so it's kind of a free jam. We recorded it Thursday evening with the primary software being bourbon whiskey and some additional beer plug-ins. Additional vocals and effects were added on Saturday and the sampled female vocals added today (Sunday).  No editing, so this is real time at about 7 minutes and can drag on if you're not in the right frame of mind.

The title and the lyrics refer to the delusions and paranoia within the Trump administration as the Mueller investigation closes in. The cry of No Convictions having several meanings but mainly reflecting back at Trump as a man of no true convictions. This is the 4th installment in "Fire & Fury - A New Wave Opera of the Trump Years" musical arrangements. Hope you enjoy it!

The Players:

Curtis Smith - Drums
Matt Carr - Guitar
Benton Collins - Synthesizers
I played bass, vocals & samples

Female vocal samples taken from Ishtar's Way (Isthar prayer, supplication of the butchered woman) by Laura Weixelbaum

for something recorded on Whiskey and enhanced with beer vsts, this slaps hard. that driving, quarter-note bassline is sick, such a nice grunge-y, proggish feel to it. Some pretty inspired guitar playing from Mr. Carr too, dug those little mini solos in there, reminds me of Larry Lalonde.

That solid, aggressive bass is an excellent, insistent axis for the rest of the song to orbit. Great beat and tense atmosphere...and digging that Ultravox-like synth lead.

Incredibly tight and driving. Love the way you used the vocals.

Have you tried the vodka reverb?

Love the full band sound.  The bass is crunchy and awesome.  Gotta love the whiskey and beer plug-ins.  Awesome track.

Very nice! This reminds me a litte bit of early Korn music. Organic, wild, aggressive and also some crazyness going on. I love it!

wow! this is unreal, I loved every second.  great work. jammed this probably a little too loud into my headphones at work

This somehow reminds me of your 2012 Unha BrightStar Galaxy 3 track. It's got some overlap in theme too.

That sound is beautyfull... ok maybe not the right word... but i like it a lot...
The opera voices gives a cool finishing touch...
Tell your band... great work!

Very hypnotic, enjoyable right to the end.

Thanks! Good times captured at just the peak of the bottle before the drinking goes downhill smile

Thanks! I think that is the most important job of the bass player is to provide a solid foundation for everyone to play against. Me and the drummer holding it down.

Vodka reverb sounds delightful. We have to avoid the tequila or the drummer's gonna cut some one.

Thanks! Did the same thing this week (whiskey and playing) but we sat around playing songs by The Cars and possibly Judas Priest so no track out of it. Fun all the same.

Thanks! All the craziness compliments of Mr. Carr on guitar. He's got some strange, homemade effect pedals.

Glad you liked it! It's good to cut lose and be free to be a bit sloppy.

Wow, thanks for the 2012 reference. I remember that song because I was really sick with a fever when I recorded it. I was going to say, no way, they are nothing alike, but then I listened to this track again, and you're correct.  It's the cadence of the vocal and syncopation.  Sometimes I believe I only have about three songs in me and just keep recycling!

Thanks, and I did! The opera sample... at least one person in the seven minutes of this song could carry a tune!

Thanks! Glad you liked it and made it through till the end. Gets choppy towards the final part.

I feel ya. It's more than some artists though.
