#27

By NWSPR on July 8, 2018 11:58 pm

This is week #27 and we're maintaining at 84 bpm. Rough 2 hour session today featuring Curtis Smith on drums. I'm playing guitars, bass & organ. No time to mix so I'm just as surprised as anyone to hear a small snippet of drums bleeding past the fade out. WTF? I had 1 minute left and uploaded without listening.

Curtis, sorry the drums are so low in this mix. They got buried and I had to post. Will fix in the remix.

Have a great week everyone! Next week I promise to be better smile

Mike, you worry too much. If anything, the drums need to be pulled back in a few places.

Slow is fine, and so are the drums. Next week better be real good with a promise like that.

Solid and punchy. Drums sound good to me.

Drums sound good man!  Love this track.

No problem with the drums to my ears.  Sounds like a good loud joyful track.

You've got a great sound even without a mix!

Anthemic tune that got my head bobbing nicely at 84 bpm. Almost put a fist up, but I'm typing. Drums sound fine, but would be cool bigger too!

I'm with mikememo on this one! Glad you could submit on time so we got to hear it big_smile

Very good jam! as CosmicCairns said loud and joyfull! The beat is a banger and the organs are just great in the background big_smile
For the mix i think it's a bit to loud in the end... but on the other hand like this it has these wonderfull slightly clipping live feel big_smile
If i hear this i wish i had a band again...

THIS IS TERRIBLE!  I DEMAND MY MONEY BACK!

LOL just kidding!  This is great!  For a live jam feel, I don't think any of those details matter or are even noticeable.  Maybe just a light limiter would have sealed the deal.

I actually really like the random drums at the fade out.  Love the organ.

this is a real stadium rock outro smile Great guitar melody too...

Cool and punchy sounding, this sound works well for this kind of track in my opinion.

I do worry smile I think the levels just got too high at the end and the drums stayed the same.

Thanks! Crap, I promised to do better this week and... song with four bass guitars and no live drums is questionable at best. Next week I will do better.

Thanks! Yeah Curtis did a good job on the drums but got a little short changed in the mix. Just not enough time!

Thanks! Much appreciated. Live drums help a lot with carrying the track.

Thanks! It was. We had fun blasting it out in the practice space except for a few unexplained technical issues with levels.

I exaggerate because I had about 15 to 20 minutes which was really spent on track selection and arranging but then I looked up and it was 2 minutes to the cutoff and I just saved to the file and uploaded without listening. Sketchy!

Agreed. The feel of the song calls for bigger drum sound. Thanks for the feedback!

That's the way I fly... Mixing is totally optional and I have no clue how to master smile Sometimes I get lucky.

Thanks! Very happy that I have not missed a week yet.  Hoping this will be my first perfect 52 WB year!

You're absolutely right. I thought I left the drums low but after reading your comment, I listened again and the issue is that everything else comes up very loud at the end as more instruments come up.  That's why drums seem low and there is a bit of clipping. Thanks for the feedback!

NO REFUNDS! Thanks for the feedback, this week I applied a limiter to the entire mix as well as on the bass which definitely helped.  You may notice from my previous tracks that I have not mastered compressors and limiters smile  Working on it!

Thanks! The outro is my fav part and given time, probably would be central to a fully developed song. I was doing my best Richard Wright / Pink Floyd impression on the organ in the outro smile
