So last week i was watching one of Gregory Scott's talk on music production and mixing and he mentioned something that hit home and got stuck in my head. I don't remembre exactly the contexte of the talk but i think it had to do with using references or ways to refresh your ears when mixing to gain a better perspective.

The thing that struck a chord for me was the end of one of his sentences: '' ...otherwise you'll end up with a cartoonish version of what you're trying to achieve''.

The word cartoonish is probably what best describes the feeling I've had towards my music forever. I think it's part of the learning process when you try to grasp the myriads of technics needed to make electronic music. It's particularly hard to convay emotions with intent and not lose control or focus by fiddling to much with audio processing or by pilling up sounds upon sounds believing that it will make your song sound more intricate or interesting, which in turn yields more mud and confusion than anything.

The more i dig in music production, the more i realise that even complex ideas has to be presented as simply and directly as possible. It's a tough concept to grasp when the memories i have of my favorite music is super detailed and mesmerizing. But that's one of the problems, when i write music I often rely on vague memories of certain music style or songs which is how i think I end up with music that end up like a caricature of what I was going for.

In any case, the more i train my ears, listen to music intently and keep reference tracks close by when making music, the more i can see when i'm overdoing things...or do I? Haha!

Anyways, got back into Future Garage for this one.
The track was done in ableton. Sequencing, mixing and mastering.
