the substitute (acid daddy live)

After last week's shenanigans the digitakt decided to erase that whole week's worth of work ... so this week the digitakt is on sleep duty and I swapped in the modular.

Also, premier of my new Cyclone TT-303. My first hardware 303 clone!

The track isn't bad, but it's a little repetitive. Hapax as the brain sequencing some 909s through bitbox micro, TT-303 through Zoia, Subharmonicon getting a mess of effects and modulation on the modular (which, admittedly, doesn't sound so hot in the end). Knobula Polycinematic for some pads. As an attempt at some basic acid techno with modular it's decent. As a "modular" piece it doesn't sound very modular lol. It was fun to perform though.

Thinking about a more modular/generative backdrop for some more performative play from the 303, still techno but with a more ambient arrangement maybe.

I think the master is a little better this week. Hopefully didn't crush my crashes!

fire! this is a great representation of what acid edm should be. im picturing some shenanigans at a rave with some glow sticks. the acid bass is super sick

you put digitakt in TIME OUT!  big_smile
i really love this. everything going on in the background drew me in and as driving as this is... for me it has a gentle spacey quality that feels GOOD

Very good, the repetitiveness is not an issue at all here, adds a lot to the momentum of the track

I agree with everyone else, in Acid Trance repetitive is a feature not a bug... and I think modular is what you make of it... like very literally... I personally think that modular gets a bad rap for being a tonal and ambient... like sure it can to do that, and modular as a format, lends itself to very experimental soundscape things, obviously, so it attracts a lot of artist that focus on those sounds... but just like piano music can be very Elton John, or Chopin, or Liberace, or James Booker, or Franz Schubert... I think "modular" pieces are even more a reflection of the artist making it, then there a reflection of the instrument itself.  And this is pretty dope track.  (〜^∇^ )〜

this is sick! i also really like 22 and would like to tell you that even though the comments aren't enabled heart, favorited both

Thanks, I'm glad you like both tracks. I consider 22/acid daddy something of a major achievement in a lot of areas I was challenging myself with. But I have had a very bad, shitty week, and while I have 30 years in the arts to have grown a thick skin for criticism, there are some issues to which I am extremely sensitive. And in that light I disabled comments and removed my write up, because neither was going to be constructive for anyone. Not gonna lie, very nearly quit weekly this week and still might! It's heartening to hear from you as always though.

I didn't see your write up before you deleted them, but I'm glad you took steps to protect and be kind to yourself. I have really enjoyed your music here and our interactions and I would miss that if you quit. I hope you have an excellent week next week and the shittiness is behind you!

I love this, it's so slick, same with 22 and I'm sorry you feel down about it, because having you here has been nothing but positive so far and I hope you have nothing but good weeks to come, whatever shape that takes
