on frozen tides

By neon liminal on January 4, 2026 9:20 pm

Welcome back friends smile

Back in November when I was planning for WB26 I imagined I'd start with techno. And then the winter holidays hit and they were generally quite terrible.

I'm trying to catch my breath, so expect a few weeks at least of warbly lofi space-ambient, inspired by better memories of winter. This track will feature on an EP I hope to release end of the month called  Snow for Europa.

MEANWHILE, if you would like a techno fix, I released my first-ever techno EP on my bday this year (... Jan 2nd), and I am pretty damn proud of it if I do say so myself. It's hard, it's acid, it's weird and hypnotic and just a bit HORNY MINOTAUR TECHNO. PLEASE ENJOY.

Very excited to hear everyone's music this year, it's good to be back. I hope you are all well and ready for the fun.

This track is amazing and one helluva start to the year.

I love how you give things space to breathe and develop...while maintaining that returning theme. So much sonic landscape to explore. Ethereal and beautiful. Did not feel like over six minutes. And that tape warble with a bit of sizzling distortion? Chef's kiss.

Looking forwards to your techno tracks...and I need to go get your album!

this is good.

That Trent's Piano patch is so so good.

What a gorgeous track. Sitting in the office chilling to this.

ah yes, that's the sonic hug i needed. gorgeous.

happy birthday neon liminal!
you & jwh made me giggle while i shook my booty to some fantastic techno
thank you for that -

this track feels all sparkly and pensive yet hopful for the new year heart

Ooof the vibes hit right away and I feel that space-ambient mood heart Love those warbly panned out parts and the theme is gorgeous.  So happy to hear your music again.
hope it was a good birthday!! loved the ep! it was especially useful in early morning traffic.

So beautiful and nourishing.

Has that very breathy winter feel. Also huge and atmospheric. I can feel the northern lights!
Love the new album too!

What a lovely, calming track to start things off. A really peaceful wind-down on my evening. Wishing you smoother sailing post-holidays and for the rest of the year smile

It's like finding a long forgotten tape in a shoebox and pressing play on it, those nostalgic better times...you pretty much nailed it.  Loved the calmness of it as much as I loved the dirty tape vibe, very nice.

Love the way this flows smile  Great lo-fi but still hifi cross over and the verbs are amazing.

Neon! Happy birthday!
Also, the techno track on BC is a banger!

This, ooh all them textures, so good.
It kinda reminds me of Hyper Light Drifter.
Loving the slight bits of distortions.
Frick, I love this track.

I DONT WANT IT TO END!
So good.

extremely pleasant ambience! great work!!

Love the dust on that synth strum.

A perfect soundtrack to my morning dog walk

that's beautiful. the winter months are for ambient music that lets ur mind wander heart

Niiicceee! Gots some winter in it and luv that durt

always want more techno, about to go check out your EP, but I'm never going to complain about this. genuine frisson right around the 1:00 mark. that worbliness is so good. the way the wall of sound swells as new notes come in is just so nice.

Damn dude... pretty solid rebound off crappy holidays... this track is just so contemplative... and the mix is wonderful. It feels like every effect is just so thoughtfully placed to fill up the sound stage... That Jermey Blake influence is showing through in just the best possible ways.  Stoked to hear your upcoming release... I have a feeling it's gonna be a good year.

Sorry to hear about your holidays. We made it to the other side. Hope 2026 treats you better.

I find your piece unexpectedly touching. The title suggested a vast world of ice. Add the "space-ambient" genre description and that set an expectation of disassociated coldness, of some dark indifference. This is not that. This is warm and embracing, this feels personal and deliberate. If those are frozen tides, then there must be a tiny hut close by. A tiny hut with a fireplace inside, doing all it can to hold back the frost.

A beautiful piece where I was surprised by how quick 6:30 flew by. No notes, five stars.

Absolutely lovely. I really can't add anything except I'm amazed how lush and peaceful this is. So much dancing around the periphery of a warm, fuzzy core.

I'm so sorry to hear that this holiday season was a rough one. I hope spring brings better days (to us all, really).
in the meantime, I'm super happy you decided to join back this year!! Excited to hear whag you're gonna make!
clearly good stuff if it's gonna follow this initial submission! This is super pretty, loving how lush you're able to make it sound while still being super minimalistic. Super nice work!

Wonderful and timeless music. Thank you.

welcome back, we are close my B-day was just the 3rd (my son's the 4th) so Happy B-day to us and the and any other members of the January crew that may be here. Love the ear candy sprinkled about. Big congrats on the EP!

So lush! Thanks for sharing this one.

this goes perfect with some cooking noises
beautiful atmo
glad to have u back!

Excited for the year, good to hear new stuff from you, although I really enjoyed listening to the stuff you put out last year on bandcamp.  I'm a huge fan of your ambient stuff so don't mind this for a few more weeks, but will certainly check out the techno ep.

so soothing. calming to listen to

Welcome back. I do enjoy your chill tunes quite a bit.

I am frequently guilty of loving a big wall of sound, you will definitely hear more lol heart

Hahaha dude I dunno if you saw me ping you on the discord, but I sneaked Jeremy a peek at this comment and we were both flattered and seen heart heart heart lol. You are awesome sir, thank you!

heart RPLKTR, your deep listens are such a gift, and this one moreso, because what you described - the tiny hut, the fireplace, looking out onto the frozen waters - was exactly the image in my head when I was composing this piece. I am really flattered and moved that you imagined exactly that while listening - thank you heart. Also very excited to hear your stuff this year. I missed your mother-32s lol.

(I might be getting a Grandmother tomorrow....)

Thank you! Hahaha yeah I seem to have two major parts of my musical brain, ambient and techno. It's impossible for me to not make both, so don't worry, there will be plenty of ambient this year lol heart heart heart

Thank you, and welcome back! I can't imagine weekly beats without you!

Really like how the first notes linger
Winter ambiance is on point, a bit jealous of the textures you managed and curious about your signal chain wink

Great to hear from our neighbors! Greetings from Montreal

Welcome back, a week late, but I'm catching up! Love the tones here, so good. And the plinking chimes, winter ambience indeed, just right for my winter day too. Gonna check your techno too. You had me with HORNY MINOTAUR TECHNO for sure.

#teamminotaur

this is so good
downloaded
going to listen on repeat

love the ending and the silence

hope you're over the winter blues and thanks for the peaceful snowscape

I'm catching up from the future (week 4). Welcome back for another year of tunes smile

Very beautiful piece. Quite melancholic and really soothing. Love the small tape oscillations, be them real or software emulated, it sounds like a very old tape struggling to turn, yet with a story to tell.

This sounds really beautiful, i love the presence and the iciness. tickles my brain in the right way. happy to be listening to your tracks again :-)
