WE ARE ON THE EVE OF SPOOKY SEASON.

It was a weird week. Started off with my brain in a state where it could really only do techno - and worked on a track all week, and then friday night I just could not make it work. Kinda hated it.

Saturday morning at 8am brain chemistry shifted again and I pivoted and started this mid-tempo spooky techno track on the M8, and it's been a rollercoaster since. It's big, it's loud, it's spooky, and it features a truism from Jenny Holzer, which is written on my new favourite hat. There might be more Jenny in the month to come.

My original SPOOKY SEASON plan involved five post-rock/vocal tracks, built around these prompts (which you are welcome to use this month if you need inspiration):

1. Foreboding
2. Haunted
3. A confrontation with madness.
4. Revelation
5. Lament/Remember the Dead

... however my time management is complicated, and this would mean delaying album work for a month. So these tracks might be a November Spooky Season Part 2: The Revenge, and October might feature more mid-tempo spooky techno cuz I think I did a Good Job on this one. Also, since I can make the down-tempo tracks on my M8, that keeps PC time free for album work.

STAY SPOOKY WEIRDOS. HAPPY SPOOKY SEASON!

Oof. That dark pulsing synthwavey beat sets the tone from the get go. Doom 2016 called, they want their missing soundtrack item back! Especially with that low distorted lead that enters at 2:51. Wowza.

Oh, I am all in for Spooky Techno. Love the downtempo, and the sprinkling of vocal chops is fantastic. Love the mood. I get vibes of Pretry Hate Machine filtered through The Downward Spiral. Dancy but also really gritty. God damn this is fantastic - and kept getting better as the track progressed. More please.

absolute beautiful monster of a track. that lead is SO NASTY.
incredible mix and neon liminal story/ journey
exited to see where you take us for spooky season!

I like it!  Dark and brooding.  I'm getting almost early NIN vibes from it.  I could imagine this being played in some late night goth/industrial club.  Love that noisy section too.

Yeeeeessss, I'm all here for spooky darksynth, this is fantastic!!!!
The sounds here are so gritty and intense. I'm excited to see what other spooky goodness you'll cook for us this month!

This. All of this. I crave it.

As soon as I heard that opening synth sweep I was like like...

Instant favorite, I've already listen to it like 3 times, just a dope track.  And that little interlude at 2:50... perfect.

Side note, when that first like pad sweep kind of sound that's in the intro (and outro) hit, I was like "... why do I suddenly want to watch The Craft?"... The I realized it reminded me of those like iconic guitar bends in "How Soon Is Now?"... and it made me love it more.

yeah this huuuge low end and vibe get's this under the skin right away ... oooh that part at 2:10 ... spooky but rise up and fight the zombie time, let's go time. That crunchy lead bass next, damn, that's menacing,  got me head knodding and hypnotized here. Ready for spooky season for sure. That title is great. Jenny Holzer looks amazing. New artist to learn about, thank you. and thanks for these vibes, I think my day is changed.

Oh yeaaaaah that intro, with that unrelenting beat and dark atmosphere. This has a slow contagious groove. I get a NIN vibe too from some of sounds n the track. Awesome sequences and nasty fuzz synth. That track is BADASS! Loved it. Faving it.

That opening synth is just so tasty. Those lead synths are so fucking gritty and dirty I looove it.

cyber af very good

very spooky! and groovy. spoovy? i love the breakdown at 3m. favorited!

Great job on this. The ramp-up around 2:09 does it for me but you definitely keep things moving & changing without being intrusive, perfect stompy goth dancing material. thank you

It's funny, I swapped out the 'clap' for a snare at some point and it was just Pretty Hate Machine exactly ... so I put the clap back. It was just way too on the money - that 90s NIN snare is very distinctive and signature. I love the NIN comparison too - Reznor forever - but definitely wanted to push this somewhere modern ... as much as I could lol. Thank you heart

Geebus. Thank you lol. I mean the Rick and Morty gif was kinda perfect and good lord I love that moment ... a perfect compliment if I may say so but The Smiths?! *double swoon* ... I love that song too. I remember it in The Craft.  I'm gonna be thinking about that all month now.

Thank you Napear heart

Thank you! Jenny Holzer is amazing. A good friend of mine brought me some of the text-labelled condoms she had in th bathrooms at her recent Guggenheim exhibition and they are delightful. One of them is labelled Protect Me From What I want ... another is The Song of My Rising which is just too funny ... anyway, Jenny is awesome.

Thank you! It does have a lot of stomping lol heart

Love the back and forth play between the drums and bubbling bassline.  Oof I dunno what that other lead is but it sounds like printer being thrown into a metal shredder yikes and then that rolling synth just came in as i'm trying to place the other yikes yikes  Suddenly the title fits perfectly hearing this all come together.  The vocals when they're in the full mix give me some Reznor vibes when he does his "through every forest above the trees"-like lines.  Awesome track and really cool idea for spooktober smile
