brother can you hear me (with JWH) - intermission

By neon liminal on December 15, 2024 11:35 pm

an intermission, if I may.

This week we had to say goodbye to our dog Max. He was 16, an ancient elder for his mix of breeds, daddy to seven pups, including Jack and Rory who are still with us, and companion to his sister Sky.

my brother Rob is also mourning Max this week from afar, please give his song a listen.

Early in the week my good friend and chosen-family-brother, Josh, aka JWH, asked me to make him a little space drone for his track this week. In typical fashion I ended up recording something twice as long and four times as complicated as necessary, recording live off the modular+friends, and mixing in DAW before sending it along.

Right about when things started getting not good with Max, Josh graciously asked if we could collaborate this week -  and he took my space-drone and added his words, vocals, guitar, bass and magic, to create something truly wondrous and beautiful.

Thank you again, Josh - we made something so beautiful and wondrous I honestly never imagined I'd make in my lifetime. It's amazing. This was a wonderful thing to create together during one of the most difficult weeks of my life.

Please go visit Josh's entry for our song and comment there: brother can you hear me. The work and soul and joy and imagination and beauty he put into this song is the stuff of dreams, absolutely wondrous. I am honoured and humbled to work with him, it was a dream made real.

And thank you to everyone for their kind words and support these last few weeks. The community on WB is amazing.

The Pulsar Suite continues next week with part four - and we'll end the year of WB with the fifth and final part. Meanwhile, I hope you find some peace and solace in our song this week, like I have.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I feel like this track honors him in a beautiful way.

Oh god, I am so very sorry for your loss, I'm sure he left knowing how much you loved him.  This song is a beautiful tribute, it had me in tears more than once.  I really am sorry man, you've got my email if you want to talk heart

heart heart heart

Sorry to hear that. Thank you for giving Max a good long life! The track is a beautiful tribute.

So sorry for your loss.  I was just at Rob’s page a few tracks ago and totally did not have a clue you were brothers!
Both of you have created beautiful tributes to Max.  The opening of the drone sounds heavenly and just so calming and serene.
Josh’s guitars and vocals sound perfectly mixed with the calming drones too.  Beautiful heartfelt lyrics.  Another awesome and beautiful collab between you and Josh.  I lost my kitty_bestie of 19years last October so my heart goes out to you and your fam.  heart

What a beautiful track. You can really feel the love here. I'm very sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Max. I can imagine how hard this must feel. A very beautiful tribute you did with the support of Josh. It reminds me of the transcendental music by Spiritualized, Spacemen3, Experimental Audio Reserch and Sonic Boom. Thank you for this music in full length.

Best wishes to you and the fam. May Max rest in peace and his memory become a source of joy to all who knew him. I still get warm when I think about Vick, the dog I grew up with who passed almost a decade ago.

This track hit me just right at the end of the day. Thank you for this, great work by you and Josh.

dang, im really sorry about your dogs passing, this is a great song to remember him by

I'm so so sorry to hear about your and your brother's pain, friend. I hope that this wonderful creation helps take the sting away from such a painful moment. Wishing you two the best.

A beautiful piece of music. So sorry for your loss, it sounds like Max was deeply loved.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, I know how tough loosing a little fur buddy can be.  This track is just absolutely lovely work though, and I hope that it helped to bring some brightness to a dark time.  The sound design is just remarkable... the plucky bell like sounds have such just perfectly percussive attack, and when they start to "break down" in the section near 4:00, how pristine they were before goes a long way towards creating a tangible change in the atmosphere and tone.  Wonderful work.

So sorry for your loss, I was just catching up on last weeks tracks and now realize the news of the loss for your family.  Absolutely stunning and beautiful track and tribute the two of you put together.

Sorry to hear about your loss of the companion. Sounds like he had a good long life. This is a wonderful creation. Thank you for collabing with Josh to bring this into the world. It really does bring a moment of peace and calm. your ambient bed is enveloping, I could float with that for days. What Josh has added brings this to new levels. Cheers for collaboration, and for this great community here. I have enjoyed your music this year, looking forward to the rest of your suite!

Stunningly beautiful. The work you two do together is amazing. Gentle and lovely. It’s not hard to imagine a very happy dog bounding along to this….

So sorry for you and your loss. They never truly leave us, not while we remember them heart

Thank you, everyone, for the kind words and support and love this week, and sharing your own stories of furry loved ones, it means the world to me. I've tried to listen to as many of your tracks this week as I could but time has been lacking and my brain similarly exhausted, I hope to get more in this week. To all of you, hug your loved ones, take care of yourselves, and enjoy the holiday if you're celebrating. Stay safe. And best of luck on week 52!
