a song from another winter

By neon liminal on January 25, 2026 9:47 pm

A more challenging week than I expected. I'm staring at a snow storm right outside my window and that seems like a good place for the final track on this little collection of space-ambient-tape-mood-stuff.

This track is a little special - after many years of debate, I finally got myself a Moog Grandmother as a bday present to myself, and this is the first song I have executed with it, a duet, appropriately, with my Moog Subharmonicon. There are familiar sounds here if you have listened to Autumn on Ganymede, but some new friends and a bit of a different mood. Speldosa joins in at the end for a little twinkling of stars.

This likely marks the end of this little period of ambient music, and these four tracks plus one more will be released as Snow for Europa sometime in the next month or so. Next week gonna be a big shift ... either some really fucked up techno, or some somewhat-retro house music.... or who knows maybe we will just keep the chill and go ambient/dub techno. That is assuming disaster doesn't disrupt my plans as usual.

Thanks to everyone who are listening and leaving comments, I love the conversation here on Weekly Beats, just wish I had more time to reply to everyone (... which I will be doing tonight lol)

Big, dramatic, spacey, getting lost in the winter. Love it. It's a good Moog or Mog. (Kupo. tongue)

Chef's kiss on that slow moving intro string slowly moving into celestial things forming out of the ether.

feelings as big as Europa
please hug Grandmother for me & tell her she did a great job heart

please hug Grandmother for me too

feeling the cold and enjoying it so much heart  grandmother is lovely and makes me feel good.  ooof those tape warbles and the melody how it sort of spins.. it makes me feel like i'm reliving memories in a montage. the beacon at the end so nice.  heart

I love your ambient tracks. This is so sparkly and warm.

What a lovely journey. That ending made me feel like somehow, things are going to be ok.

Fingers crossed on avoiding disaster.  I love the conclusion to this suite.  I really love how the pedal tone/high drone adds that snowy shimmer to the whole thing.  I also like the placement of the tape warbles, like ambient is kind of always fading into the background of your mind, and those warbles just pull you back to the present for a moment it way that makes the music gently request your focus... and like right before you should be applying it.  Very nicely done.

What a lovely closure on this ambient period

I like the tape skips, the saturation/distortion ended up being a tad much in the peak, but I am wearing heapdhones, maybe that's why...

Otherwise great mood there, your ambient stuff always have such tangible emotions to them, longing, nostalgia, but also closure, completion...

Looking forward to hear what you do next!

A birthday gift we all get to enjoy, so glad you got the grandmother. This is perfect to go along with my snowy night.

really pretty and moving! can't wait to see what you do next

Delicate and lovely! It's snowing here currently and this sets the perfect mood

Thank you for the calming and peaceful music. It was very very beautiful. Keep on moving in a new direction.

This is so shiny (both in a sonic and Firefly way), seems as though your new Moog is a good fit.  There is a moment around the 3:20 mark where is sounds like the track slips which sounded fantastic and the last notes drawing out into almost a feedback whine left a kind of unsettled feeling at the end.  Bring on the EP.

Belated happy birthday and may the elements pass over your home and fall upon your enemies.

So peaceful, but apparently the calm before the storm.

A lovely soundtrack to a snowy day. Calm and cool washing over, time to. slow down and appreciate.

Moog team represent! Oof, such a great intro to your new instrument. And nod to how you're using your Subharmonicon. Again, we're doing it so differently it's funny. I bet most people wouldn't be able to recognize it's the same instrument between our tracks.

No notes, five stars. That glockenspiel was the perfect counterpart later in the track.
