Twilight Strings

By Napear on February 4, 2024 9:16 am

So this weeks was a little bit of a hail-Mary.  I set aside Saturday for writing… and got about 6 hours into the project I was hoping to submit this week… but only made it about 80% of the way through the first of 3 sections.  So I pivoted to a softball sad-boi lo-fi beat. (ಥ﹏ಥ) It's not super original, but I rather crank out a generic lofi track than miss a week!

Nice laid back feel to this and really enjoyed the mournful qualities of the cello.

Thanks, yeah that Tina Guo cello!! ੧[ ⁰ o ⁰ ]ʋ SOO good... like 60% of the reason I got the Musio library... I mean, basically the whole CineSamples collections for $300 is a legit insane deal, but the Tina Guo and Gina Luciani samples were worth the price alone.

Love a sad-boi lofi beat! Really like the trading of guitar and cello, along with the softer piano/harp(?) notes.

Thanks, and it's layered pianos.  NI Noire Felt, and NI Una Corda Felt.  The Una Corda has a really nice percussive sound to it, and a LOT of resonance, which is probably where the harp vibes come from.

The ambiance is set nicely on this one. Tone Matrix said it before me, but yeah those Cellos are sounding great.

I see I'm not the only one who went "lofi beats" this time!

In my experience sometimes the less ambitious tunes sink in better, sometimes people find them easier to grasp and relate to. Even if for you this week is "unoriginal", let me tell you it turned out well!

I'm glad you like it.  I think I have more sampled instrument libraries for cellos than any two other instruments (not counting pianos), probably because it's such an impactful instrument, and man when it sounds good it's just so inspiring to play... and the Tina Guo libraries are just something else.

Fair enough, and thank you.  I think I was just frustrated at the track because I had bitten off more than I could chew with a ridiculously ambitious project, and having to resort to something that was "in my comfort zone" left me a little bitter at the track.  But, it has grown on me.  I think the drums are pretty rough, like using Logic Drummer left them feeling rushed and half baked I think... but there's a reason there so much Lo-fi in the world... it's fun to make and nice to listen to.  And you're right, not everything has to be ambitious to be good, so think I will be more kind to myself when I feel the need to go back to comfort zone pieces for Weekly Beats.  Thanks for the comment.

This is the way!

Also, it doesn't have to be super original if it sounds like a lost track from Empancipator at his prime

oh I love this! puts you in a melancholy mood right away. I'd experiment with more reverb on the drums.
also ain't nothing wrong with so called generic lo-fi yo, it's part of the aesthetic, no?
Cheers!

Well I'll keep that in mind if I ever make anything even half as good as Emancipator's stuff (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ ... but I'll take the complement, thank you.

I'm glad you like it, and that's a great idea.  I was gonna rework the drums anyway, giving them a little more ambiance will probably make a world of difference, thanks for the suggestion.  And yeah, I can't even be mad at the lofi of it all anymore, my significant other just "commissioned" me to make her a bunch of similar tracks she can play in the background while writing, and it's hard to argue with something that inspires art in others right?
I hope she's ready to write a epic Highland saga (☛´∀`*)☛ ٩(◕‿◕。)۶

Ok this is really nice, enjoyed the listen

Down tempo with guitar heart

Tasty, tasty speed trash. Love the guitars, great work on the strings and the drums are a surprising combo.

Thanks! I was actually surprised how well the guitar parts turned out... totally sampled instruments. My KSA90 was definitely giving me the evil eye while I was working on this, but MIDI instruments were just faster... and time was very much of the essence for this track.
