Mossy Stones

Ok, so were are again in speed trash territory (edit, proof of the point... I just realized I accidentally recorded the click track in the submitted version... ( °□°) ︵ ┻━┻ ), the thing I was hoping to have out this week needed more hours of work than I had, so I started a new track, literally 2 hours before the deadline... and it seemed like a perfect use case for Logic's new "AI powered" accompaniment.  So, I'm playing Rhodes here, and Logic is on drums, bass, and the background pad.  Didn't even do any fancy effects, just standard channel strip stuff for mixing and mastering.  I will say, once I figured out that the chord track has a bug and hates negative bars (which lead to like 20 minutes of panicked frustration)... it was pretty low effort to get something that sounds fine... it's not amazing... but it's a lot more than I would have been able to do in two hours without it... plus it was fun to just have a backing track for recording.  The Rhodes part is all done in one take... well three takes really, but I didn't do any comping... so all in all I'm pretty impressed with the tool.

At any rate, fingers crossed that I can actually get the thing I want to do, fully done, and in a state I am proud of (which does happen from time to time, I promise (- ‿◦ )_b ) for next week.

Me swaying back and forth to this track like

lol, it happens to the best of us. Nice track though and impressive off the cuff improvisation. Looking forward to this gem of a song you have for next week smile

Lol, so I listened to the track again... and the metronome gif you posted happened to be in like perfect time with the click track, so it really looked like IT was the source of the click... And thanks, most of the track is that "Royal Road" progression... which is in... like a lot of my music.  So improvising was easier because I was on home turf... also my partner pointed out that it sounds like either the opening for an anime, or like an 80s sitcom... which I agree with, like unbegrudgingly, but also there's for sure enough of both of those rattling around in my brain that I didn't have to reach far for it (- ‿◦ )

more like Royal RHODES, amirite??
but for real, i love yr playing on this. so fluid and a strong narrative
heart

Impossible not to sway in a timely fashion as I type this smile  The click almost has a cowbell feel to it.  The rhodes sounds great and love the lil leslie sorta effect it has on it.  Cool thing is there's a dream sequence episode in Mr. Robot this would have fit in perfectly with.  80s sitcom +1

I've been curious to try the Logic AI stuff but am afraid to download the new version >.< Sounds like it works quite well based on this track! The rhodes sounds great and is the star of the show for sure, well done.

Thank you... also that joke is so intensely DAD in nature that I think it just WD-40ed all the squeaky hinges in my house while quietly, but obviously judging me for having not already done it.

Yeah it does have low passed cowbell vibe doesn't it, almost sounds intentional... almost... Yeah I can see how this would fit a dream sequence... particularly with how the pad turn out.

Yeah, the bass is actually surprisingly good... the drummer isn't much changed from what it was before... I don't love the keyboard though... but I suspect that a drummer, or bass player would feel the same about their respective instruments so... It is very nice for getting something laid down quickly and is at least as good as a miscellaneous Apple Loop, but you know you can dictate specific chords, style, and intensity levels so... perfect for sketching, or quick demos, and I expect I will lean on them heavily for fast turn around underscore type things.

What a delightful track this is. I like the candy vibe you get from the keyboard. There are some lovely melodies there, like around 0:32.

This is lovely. The click track actually sounds like a subtle woodblock accompaniment which is absolutely appropriate for this kind of jam and the Rhodes sounds melty smooth I love it.

I had exactly the same situation this week - not enough physical hours to finish what I was working on proper. So week 21 will also be something I played up inside an hour lol. I can relate!

Speaking of which, I haven't forgotten your challenge to use the Royal Road chord progression for tune! I had an idea from a few weeks ago that I'll probably get back to eventually that used some approximation of that chord progression. I'm just bad at sticking to conventional chord progressions or keys (lol, sounds so silly but it's true. My whole adolescent music exposure was avant-garde, experimental, and progressive metal) but this week's song has me learning to write within those kinds of limitations... so maybe soon?!

Oh yeah no sweat, whatever keeps the motivation to write up right?  The whole point of WB for me is to help me replace the "motivation" to write with the "discipline" to write.  And your prompt to write something in Lydian Diminished helped with that, but I've always found it easier to fulfill commissions and requests than to create for it's own sake... so if my challenge to you is encouraging, then I look forward to the tune... if it's stiffing or unwelcome, then totally ignore it... it's not like I paid for it (☛´∀`*)☛  ... so long as we're all still submitting pieces on week 52, and 42, and 37...

Thank you.  I really do love the sound of the Rhodes V8 plugin... I'm a sucker for a "tine" sound, and the new Mark 8 was a serious G.A.S. trigger for me... but the plugin sounds sooooooooooo good, I'm really struggling to not shoe horn it in like everything I write.

... and yeah, I feel like a lot of my WB submission have been... "Ok, this would be cool... and I have 12 hours total to execute on it... that's plenty..." 8 hours "... WHY DID I THINK I COULD DO THIS IN LESS THAN 3 DAYS!?!?!... ok... ok... what can I mix in less than an hour...???"

I'm glad it delighted you. Once I got past the stupid bugs in Logic, it was actually pretty fun to record.
