Inner Sanctum

School+Work has been just... a lot this week... so I decided to make the least stressful thing I could think of.  This is a very atmospheric, ambient track.  Very much a raw expression of my emotional state I think... but I could also see it being score for a video game... maybe an investigating a laboratory where some heinous monstrosity was accidentally let loose on the world.

It might sound like there's a lot happening in this one, but really just a stack of granular synths and other convenience VSTs from NI (Ashlight, Lores, Arkhis, Fables, etc)... then really just a lot of noodling about.  I will say it's one of the more cathartic tracks I've made this year... so I may do more of these in the coming weeks.

Also if anyone wants to use this as a texture/background/or other sample fodder for their tracks, it's entirely diatonic in Cm... and technically its 87bpm, but I didn't play to a click at all, so only the low end pulsing sound is actually in time.  If anyone does use it, for sure tag me, I'd love to hear how others might use it.

Yesssssss I absolutely love this sound! Would fit right into a game like Darkest Dungeon! Would also be great for a dark fantasy DnD podcast like Dark Dice. This is very inspiring I might try my hand at making something similar.

Btw have you seen the sample library Grimm by Orchestral Tools? It's absolutely gorgeous dark and medieval-y instruments, I picked it up during it's intro price sale and I absolutely love it

A lovely swirling of ambient textures used to great effect.  NI has so many great instruments hey.  I'd happily hear more of this stuff.

Thanks, I'm really glad you like it.  I can totally see the dark fantasy vibe too.  I have not seen the Grimm library, but last December I fond myself looking for scandinavian folk strings samples, and found most wanting... and it looks like Grimm has Tagelharpa... and some really dope sounding baroque flutes... I medium hate Sine player, but I may suffer it for this library... hmm....  ( ;¬_¬)

Hey thanks, I very much got lost in this one while recording it.  And yeah they really do, Ashlight, Straylight, and Pharlight especially... though Fables is really starting to grow on me.

Tagelharpa my beloved heart - Sine player could be better yeah, but the Grimm library is pretty set it and forget it imo, all the articulations are so different that I don't see the need to set up key switches or anything.

I think sometime next year I'm going to try my hand at building a Tagelharpa, been wanting to for years.

Thanks, I'm glad it reads as magical... I might actually make that the specific aim of the next one... so also thanks for the idea.  d(-_^)

Hey hey, I'm stoked that I'm not the only one that this track has entranced.  And for sure, I would legit be honored to have you use this piece.  I will send you the WAVs for mix, and the stems when I get off of work.

BLESS YOU  heart

Wonderful. Really rich build of textures and a very deep space. I know the catharsis well that you feel making this kind of music. Translates beautifully here, very much shifted me into a moody, meditative and pleasantly dark emotional state.... it's kinda hard to write coherent thoughts while listening lol I just want to listen and detach heart

The intrigue, the mystery intensifies. What's around the next corner I wonder. Are we moving through time and space, or journeying inward ... Great sounds and exploration, glad this was cathartic, I can see how it would be, that's so great when music is.
So now I gotta find out what a Tagelharpa  is ... and maybe learn what my favorite Scandi folk instrument is, so I can learn what is says about me. Excited for that.

oh that was you eminating from the basement on repeat

I love it! So does my cat she's so relaxed

Oof! Love the instant cinematic feels from this.  Feels like I just stumbled upon the lair of a hidden alien race about to invade the planet.  The higher bells def have me looking up at all the alien fixtures smile  Excellent work and mood created.

This is ALSO an awesome atmosphere! Glad you found a catharsis in this style of music, the sound is really powerful. I particularly like the sound of some of the higher strings/violins(?).

Wow! Mesmerizing and wickedly enticing. Leaves me entranced.  Love Cmin. It's a "go to" key for me.

I'm so glad that it has that effect... that is very much the space I was in while recording it... just totally lost in the sounds.

I love that description, and lol Tagelharpa is a lovely scandinavian version of the lyre. I'm happy to be spreading the gospel of esoteric folk instruments. °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°

Very late response, so I imagine there was a loooooot more of creepiness... so you're welcome, or I'm sorry... whichever applies most. ╮(╯∀╰)╭

Thanks, I'm glad it was evocative... I'm still very new to the ambient stuff, but I really do enjoy makinging it... so easy to just get lost in one's own imagination.

Thanks so much.  Yeah, there are a few different kinds of violin family instruments mixed in there, though mostly through ensemble and granular patches, so I'm not even 100% sure what all of them are... that's one of my favorite things about some of the NI "media composer" libraries... they're jam packed with patches that you can just play and get lost in without fussing about orchestration too much.

Awesome!  I'm glad this piece has cast so many spells on people.  And yeah Cm is for sure a go to for me, particularly darkly moody things... I also gravitate to C Phrygian, when I need a more aggressive edge.
