UPSIDE

By mzunguko on February 1, 2026 10:51 pm

I spent some more time with the TR1000, despite the costs it really is a tremendous machine, I highly recommend if you are addicted to drum machines (like me).

The tap was dry until Friday, when I finally found a bass patch and some drums I liked to layer in the guitar.

The UPSIDE to this week is that it's over, despite all my frustration with guitar (chords), I am still chugging away. I don't know what is needed to break out of this creative slump so early in the year. I suspect its just the fact that I can't play everything I want to play on the new guitar and still get something put together that resembles a track. Down to 109 BPM, may need to break away from the traditional for the next go, perhaps dig through the gear pile and see what else inspires.

I hope everyone is staying healthy.

Amazing sounds in this. Everything has nice weight. There seem to be some minor tonal things to tighten up but this is one to dial in later with more time.

Cool vibe.  I can sort of picture this soundtracking a spy movie.  I like what you're doing with the guitars.  They add an extra texture and dimension to the proceedings.

Sorry, I just needed to ping orangedrink here, because I think this guitar reminds me so much of his sound palette!

Anyways, this is AWESOME! Super funky and groovy. I'm REALLY digging this one. The percussion feels so alive in here, like it's breathing and responding to other elements in the song. Great work!

Dope guitar playing! Got a mysterious quality to it, can't put my finger on it, but makes me lean in closer to hear and feel this track more and more deeply. I feel ya on struggling to find motivation at the beginning of this year, but sounds like you've got this year going strong already, keep up the great sharing! heart

ahh this is such a great groove!
i really dig the guitar playing, although i can understand the frustration with not being able to play something quite like how you are hearing it in your head...

not sure this will help, but something that works for me sometimes when i'm dealing with that... instead of trying to imaging something first and then trying to play it, i try to kinda let me mind go a bit fuzzy and let myself get a bit hypnotized by what i already have recorded (bass, drums, whatever it might be) and then just pick up the guitar and see what comes out with no judgement. also letting it play me instead. those are often some of my favorite recordings.

anyway! hope you have a peaceful week. thanks for the escape here heart

Yeah you nailed it... Like the missing soundtrack to original StarCraft. The guitar is awesome.

Great groove established right away, the guitars are a good contrast to the other elements. Overall put me into a trance that I may never recover from!

This track is so good. I can appreciate your frustration with creative slumps, but I wouldn't index too heavily on it. It could be this is how you are processing creativity right now. You may just need to give it a little time to permeate through your layers. You are clearly crushing it.

Such a sweet groove coming from the drums.  The sliding guitars are a nice rhythm support as well.  A really cool hypnotic feel to this.  Sweet sounding arps that float over top.  Well done!

The beat is groovy and infectious. The nostalgic line against the bass counterpoint work very well, weaving a very interesting soundscape.

The groove hooked me right away, and then there were guitars and the whole thing got a quiet but undeniable funk thing that I was not expecting but absolutely love. the switchup at 2:50 or so is great.

love how all the guitars come in, sounds so good over the beat!

lovely vibe, the TR1000 sounds so good heart

Thank you so much, So many layers to explore in the TR-1000 can't say enough about this machine.

Thank you so much, just trying to find a rhythm again, and a balance. New stray Malinois has attached at the hip, she is a bit older but since I work from home she is never from my side, she needs a bunch of mental attention, while she needs exercise, I think she got hit by a car as when she arrived she was terrified of vehicles and rests well without a bunch of anxiety, think she has had a bunch.

It really is hours under fingers and frustration is just part of it, its the driver for the change that is required. If there is no record of the journey was the journey ever started. So glad you enjoyed this. You have been crushing it, appreciate the listen for sure.

Yeah, I end up throwing a bunch on the cutting floor until I can find some groove to attach to, this came together all around those drums. Still finding my way around the TR1000, got a whole year.

Thanks, love me a good drum machine, and some more time under the fingers for sure.

Thanks, I really had fun with this one, after I got the framework of the drums.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Guitars are a work in progress for sure, still figuring out the live recording, I may pick up a looper pedal.

Thank you so much for stopping by. I spent a bit more time on the TR1000, between learning guitar and diving into this piece, each week is flying by.
