Mountain Stone

ALL FEEDBACK ON MIX, SONGWRITING, PERFORMANCE, MIX ETC APPRECIATED.

A bit of a sloppy rushed one.

Came up with an approximation of this riff recently and put it down to get started.
I got kinda stuck (as I often do) with vocals. I find it quite difficult with writing vocal lines of melodies. Then this one I wanted even to be a bit less tuneful or melodic because of the nature of the lyrics, about being like unmovable like a mountain. Anyway I then started recording another idea, also struggled with a vocal idea, then came back to this.

What Went Well
- I enjoyed jamming a on the keys again, doing musical typing on my QWERTY keyboard haha. Been kinda fun to incorporate and play with different sound recently.
- In the end , the last lead guitar line, actually came on vocals (which come in behind after, if roughly). It was fun to write a part on one instrument then play it on another.
- I really enjoyed coming up with the lyrics for this one. Got the idea for vocals initially from a line in the Oh Sees song Animated violence 'I am warrior...'. It sounds so cool so kinda used that as starting point and then thought it would be cool to do different lines like on a theme of being like archetypical  symbols of strength and cool shit. I was tired on Sunday when it came time to work on the track, but getting the lines got me kinda pumped to work on the track.
- Glad to show up and get the idea down.
- I love that WB gets me playing the guitar more often, and writing songs is like never far from my mind.

-
Even Better If
- A second verse, with cool lines.
- Tided up key line a bit. Maybe experimented with the sound more.
- Better performed and recorded almost all parts.
- Mix was quick and dirty and sloppy.
- Not a sore throat from smoking too much when it comes time to record. Wanted to do more vocal takes and better screams but didn't really have it in me.

Ideas For Future
- Maybe take some of my favourite WB ideas from this year and work on them next year into fully realised version. An EP release, perhaps!

Happy holidays everyone, have a good one. One week left!

P.S. ANyone know how to view my favourite tracks? I'd like to revisit some of them and do my year end WB list

Lyrics (I'm not sure how to do the drop down thing):

I am wild beast, prowling through the forest
I am mountain stone, weathered but unbowed
I am iron will, forged in blazing fire
I am rising sun, chasing down the shadows

Fuck yeah, love it.  Was digging on the guitar lead towards the end when the chorus joins in, brought a big smile.  Very nice, looking forward to  reading your notes once the tired has passed.

Thanks so much! Also for the motivation to take a minute to write up my notes whilst the week is still fresh smile
I did enjoy the guitar line and the lalalas, too. Something about getting silly and weird and loose while recording vocals really nourishes my soul haha

holy hell, we are ROCKING OUT OVER HERE

sing it from the MOUNTAIN TOPS

super fun, buddy. the keyboard lines really add a lot here. that riff carries the weight of ancient POWER

Like the song, the idea is good, the performance and vocals are top notch. My only suggestion is that this sort of groove metal track wants a bass line that is pretty front and center in the mix. I think that's the one missing bit to make this into a killer song.

Thanks for listening and your comment. This is really helpful. I totally agree and I will downtune to Drop D to re-record the bass deeper and get it to drive the song from the front. Thank you!
