Heart of Man

Heart Attack American vibes from one of my all time faves, the Bronx. Done in three sessions, Saturday eve and Sunday pre and post dinner.
A community call on Sunday gave me space to think, feel and share about what's happening in the Ukraine. I have found Zelenskyy's words to be heroic and inspiring, so I used that as a base seed idea for the words of this one. In the midst of the recordings I also drafted a blog post on the topic on a digital co-writing session. Appreciating the community right now.
What went well:
- Jammed til it hurt my forearm.
- Getting better workflows - more efficient at coming up with sections.
- Loving how my relationship with this process and the whole weekly beats thing is progressing. Enjoying building a catalogue of ideas whilst simultaneously keeping the creative muscles flexed and clocking practice time.
- Improving playing at speed.
Ideas for future:
- Get v1.0 down and bounced as early as possible. (Think I will aim for Monday) Having the bounce exported to listen to whilst out always helps me to advance it and get clarity on where I wanna go next. I think using some kinda similar process to how I write will work well for me. That is get the first draft (no matter how rough) out as soon as possible, and then work on it in iterations. Rather than editing passes, perhaps a session that ends in a freshly exported bounce. Excited to see how this goes.
- Would like to work on a fresh approach to how I come up or generate ideas for vocals, both rhythm and melody. And also words. But primarily rhythm and melody. Any suggestions, tips or advice very welcome and appreciated!
Other random thoughts:
Think I will select a few of my favourite ideas from my weekly beats at the start of May and then try to flesh them out over the month to form a setlist. Or share online to try and find musicians who may want to flesh them out with me. I want to play a gig this year! Exciting!
