this song took me 58 minutes to write, then another 10 to bounce and master.

i just wanted to see what I could do if i set a limit. it's tough to say how it went because i could have gotten lucky as i didn't struggle at all. everything just flowed.

That's such a magical feeling. I don't feel it very often, but it's such a glorious thing when it comes by. I feel like the portability of the M8 helps a lot for you to just allow yourself more opportunities to have that happen.

And since you said you can't be the judge of whether it's good or not, please allow me: this sounds DOPE AS FUCK. The opening is super mysterious, the panning works super well to set the tone. The lead comes in complements the whole feeling and the little bouncy synth in the background are GREAT. Finally, when the "percussion" kicks in, I feel like "oh shit, things are getting serious!!!". The quiet little interlude also rules.

I don't know what to say, it's just awesome! Hahahaha... Awesome job building this in just an hour!!!

I love this track - it totally has an almost industrial feeling to it. The beat that's basically stopped with the rising synth around 1:05 is so great; totally my vibe. I think it turned out great for a track that only took a bit over an hour to make. Great stuff!

Those top synths are very nice.

That delayed "snare" is very cool.

Super dense bass sound. I like that a lot. Well played!

1 h is not a lot, but it seems that it is a lot if you have decent workflows! Solid.

I think the biggest problem the m8 solved for me was that it doesn't require any setup. It's a unit that really understands the need for muscle memory. the workflow is optimized around completion (not starting, which is fools gold IMO), and definitely not around "making it look cool" (though it does look cool). it's like the vim editor for music lol. no frills, all the power.

I plucked that beat from a track I did a few weeks ago, "dark wood venus" - i had a render of it so I just pulled it in as a sample. I like to set stuff up and take it away because it adds a bit of drama, and it's easy drama to make in a crunch!

One thing that I do occasionally is take a beat, and add a bunch of effects/reverb whatever, then mix it down as a sample.

Then I slice and resequencing it, and instead of relying on the effects to do the work, I just pick a slice that has that effect on it. because it's a slice, it has a percussive quality to it. just a throwback to my "run the whole master channel through a buffer override and distortion" days. more cheap and fast tricks!

I'd say it went well, but then you can spend half the time redefining good, and it'll always work.

Big fan of those drums + distorted bass! And that detuned solo with the delay at the end is excellent sound design. Suggests chiptune, feels analog, and is very hi-fi. All at the same time.

Two thumbs up!
