Let's See What's Going On

The base for this one is a jam I did on Xynthesizr years ago. I discovered the WAV, which was WAY too long, and imported it into the M8 for chopping and accompaniment. I had the bones sketched out and started noodling with it some more in January, figuring if I needed a last-minute track I could have this one in my back pocket. Well, I'm not done fiddling with it, but this past week has been hectic...
We got our seasonal ice storm on Thursday. Last year we lost 2 trees, a huge branch punched a hole in our garage roof, and another hit the power line going into the house. This year, TWO holes punched into the garage roof and another branch narrowly missed our power line. We are down 6 trees and the whole place is a mess. Then Friday night I discovered that the flashing around our chimney has dissolved, so water was leaking into the attic. At midnight. And it's just been days of yard and roof work, continuing after I hit Submit on this one.
I really liked how the Xynthesizr part is a little wonky, time-wise. The original tempo is 118bpm, which I matched on the M8, but using the app without regard to a normal beat or any plans to do more with it meant some of the "hero" notes are not where they should go, which to me makes it more interesting - it's stuff I would 100% shy away from when deliberately writing something. This is a longer one for me, and more traditionally dance/club-ish, so I tried to include a bunch of stuff to keep the variations coming and make stuff interesting.
For some reason, this one took a lot of tweaking and fiddling to get sounds right, make room for stuff, keep things moving and balanced, and generally make it as clean as possible. Lots of track juggling to fit parts in, and my bass patch needed some TLC after one of the firmware updates because the oscillator got weird after 8 steps and needed to be synced. I've been poking at it every single week since January. The vocal sample is from a 1940 film short/advertisement for eyeglasses called "Fitting Faces" (in the public domain). So, if it's okay, we'll butt in for a minute and see what's going on!
