This track began with testing out an Xbox Rockband microphone into an iPad via GarageBand.   I have a Motu M4 audio interface and some nicer microphones,  but was curious how the Rockband Mic would work for a super quick setup, it’s USB,  so I can skip hooking up the interface.  For this recording I aimed the mic a few feet above the drumkit, in the future I might try to find the sweet spot if there is one.

I layered three improvisations, first I played drums, then an auto wah Clav(Korg Module Auv3), and finally a funky synth lead from VHS Synth Auv3(synths resampled with a VCR).

that mic sounds pretty good, very good representation in the mids, not too harsh in the highs(i guess with the placement, you might be missing some of the bassy-punch of the kick, but i still hear it nicely). and the track feels so adventurous, it's like a funky unstoppable train ride big_smile such great detail, both in the instrumentation, and in the overall structuring!

I really like the the "natural?" saturation from the drum microphone. Very nice funky track, I quite like the "Clav" it works great with funk.

One mic setups for drums are the best. No phase issues, no hassle with balancing the mix, just the truth about how good (or bad) you sound.

Nice track.

Funky! Damn, what a groove you've got going there. Of the drums, the hi-hat and snare particularly sound great. And enough kick to get the job done. Proof right here that it doesn't take thousands of $ of gear to make enjoyable music.

funky is the word, love it

The drums sound amazing, just the right feel.

funky! thanks for sharing the production story

The funk is crunky in this one! Those keys sound like slightly buzzed robots talking. Nice chords behind. Drums just the right amount of junk, that mic worked out, that's so cool you tried that! So awesome when some lo-fi option like that can work. That's the way!  agree about the kick, could get that punching somehow.
Nice track!! Funny title! Bringing the hot leads toward the end, yesss.
