All I had time for and probably should have spent it a bit differently but it’s all good experience.

Oh I like this. Crispy percussion and smooth synths, plus that great vocal sample. I want to drive through the city at night with this on.

This is so good! Listening again, perfect for a sunny autumn afternoon

Really enjoyed this! Doesn't read as speedtrash at all

It's short and to the point but had more great ideas crammed in than I expected from your description big_smile
Love the drum programming, extra crispy.

nice and crisp, indeed. If you don't mind me saying, I can hear how it's a bit of a rush job, yes.

I feel that the melodic elements could use a bit more space and direction. Not space as in reverb or delay. But rather some longer rests. Let things breathe a while. There a lot of nice ideas in this track, but I think if you spread them out and elongated them they would be better served.

The melodies jump around a lot. I think if you gave them a bit more of an arc. Make them flow a bit more they could have some real impact.

Those are all my opinions of course. So take from it what you like.

Don't get me wrong though, I think they're some good ideas in this track. I just think it could use some refinement. But for speedtrash this is excellent.

Thanks a ton all of you for listening and the encouragement / taking the time to comment! Means a lot to me.

I see some comments on the drums/percussion so I just wanted to say that the base layer is a simple random trap or drill drum loop from Splice. I've processed and added to it but not something I want to take credit for. It's part of me trying to get something done in time. It's in fact so lazy that I'm 99% sure I used soothe2 to sidechain the low end of the bass against the base drumloop because that's where the main kick is. That's a long explanation no one asked for but there we go!

I don't mind you saying that at all, quite the opposite! Some great comments/notes and I agree with all of it.

There's that very common quote for writing that goes something like "If I had more time, I would have written you a shorter letter" which feels fitting for everything creative. One of the hardest things is to edit to a quality core of an idea and with my lack of experience that takes me quite some time.

Like you say, it certainly lacks quality and care in arrangement but also in craftsmanship on stuff like automation etc which I feel like I seldom give myself time for. Just taking the bass for example, I would have loved to do automation to change decay on notes, saturation variation etc.

Even the vocal sample, I took the time to set up a drum rack of different chops but only used them to create two small phrases that would have been faster to just done straight up copy and paste audio in sequence instead. Then I loaded up Melodyne to change the pitch of some of the notes but only did that on one of the phrases and then called it a day >< The original ambition was to use it for a lot more but that's part of the whole rush job issue.

Thank you again everyone for being part of this awesome community and for checking my stuff out. It's helped me get further than I thought in terms of volume of output.

I like the spacious feel of the track. As somebody who also often leaves feedback on others' tracks, I'd like to make it clear that people doing that here express subjective opinions, so don't necessarily treat them as gospel, but more as a transparent view into somebody's head as a receiver/consumer of the art. It's a gift when people do that, but you'll also find one person's yuck is somebody else's yum.

For instance, I don't mind the scattered arrangement you employed here. I wouldn't go to Boards of Canada and tell them the Geogaddi tracks need cleaner arcs and more dramatic finales.

It's more of a question whether what you ended up with is a deliberate choice or happenstance. Are you going in the direction you want you art to evolve? If not, course correct. Otherwise, carry on.

Viewed through this lens, I understand that we're constrained by the weekly deadline and so it's natural for our tracks here to be compromised products. We're not spending months to polish them. We move on. At a pace that most of the industry struggling with writer's blocks and unfinished 4-bar loops just can't quite comprehend. There's a value in that alone.

Love the lil intriciate rhythms in the drums and how they sort of dance with the synths.  The feel and sound gave me some Plaid feels as well. Nice work!

I'm so happy that you're part of this community and thank you for taking the time both to listen and for the fleshed out advice and perspective.
