Return to the 3rd Green House [with jwh]

By miraclemiles on December 15, 2024 11:59 pm

This track is built upon jwh's excellent week 48 song escape to the 3rd green house, with permission. Many thanks to jwh for sharing this one and letting me use it!

Whew, my adrenaline is high, snuck this one in with one minute to spare.

My son played these sax parts about an hour ago. Getting a teenager to sit down for a session on a deadline can sure be a challenge. I feel like if I can manage that feat I can manage any difficult session musicians that may come my way in the future!

So after he played a bit, I did a quick edit to find some parts, and did my best to mix it into what I already had. Could use some more tweak for sure  but I'm happy we go the sax in last minute!

Earlier this week I added some drums and keys and textures to the original which was fun. Contemplated sampling and remixing more extremely, but I liked the original so much I just decided to enjoy playing along with it. I did make a few changes. I felt like speeding up the original to a groove that got my toes tapping more. Then I edited the arrangement a bit, not sure new arrangement or tempo is better or worse, but those changes let me have some creative fun at least.

All around a fun experiment I would do again. I like building on playing with other creators work, but it can have that stress built in because you want to honor the original creator!

Awesome work!  The sax parts sound great and it has such a full live band sound with all the drum parts.  Reminded me a bit of 'the Budos band'.

The sax really adds a lot to this.  Glad you were able to wrangle your son in.  I imagine getting teenagers to cooperate with deadlines is not unlike herding cats, but the results were for sure worth it.

Wow, this is a beautiful collab. Especially the sax makes this outstanding. I thought, I was listening to a Fela Kuti record.

So rad, what a cool sound. This has such a joyful energy, the drumming and saxophone are awesome. Really enjoy this arrangement.

Thanks, glad to hear that, I love the Budos Band! Thanks for the comparison. So fun to be able to get a kind of full band sound when producing, easier than getting 4 horn players and some percussionists and everyone else to come round!

It is like herding cats. Or a cat in this case. You know when I think about it, the teen is a bit like the cat. Sleeps a lot, kind of non-plussed in general, but then has bursts of manic energy. On their own odd time table. Wow, teens == cats. Thanks for commenting!

Oh thank you, my son will be so happy to hear people liked his sax parts. I love Fela, that's awesome you hear that. His influence flavors my grooves often, I think.

Thank you! So glad to hear this feedback. Joyful energy is what I want to spread, need to remind myself that sometimes, so thanks again!

hahaha - CARPS!! Love that gif lol
So happy to hear your feedback on this, that means a lot. Thanks for making this possible! This song, and all of your music is soooo good, lucky to have you sharing here!
I will give my regards to the sax player indeed! He will be happy to hear that, even though he will probably just kind of just casually say "cool" in his teen way lol. And next time maybe he'll come collaborate earlier than an hour before deadline so I don't almost have a heart attack.
Thanks again. heart

This is fantastic, so much movement, and that sax! Amazing. Love the rhythm and the mix, feel like I'm right in a jazz lounge hall with the band. Awesome heart

whoa man. You took a jam and made it a JAM. Love all the layers you added to this. So so cool!

The link to the original is a bit scuffed, but let's skip that

Compared to the original, I really like the additions, filled out the space with the exact right amount

Mmmmm. That sax. This is phenomenal.

What a great feeling it must be putting this one together, some great original source material from JWH, got your son to lay down the sax, and then got the personal touch with the drums and all the other little bits you mixed in.  Will definitely come back for repeated listening to this one, the sax sounds so good, love the chorus with it.

Fixed the link! Thanks so much, I sometimes over-add ... so just the right amount is always nice!

Oh yeah it was a great feeling! For all those reasons. I could do this any time, hope to do it again some day! Thanks for listening, glad you want to come back for another listen too!

enjoying this a lot, love how jwh's song, your son's saxophone and all the bits you did come together.  a nice return!although that last minute thing does sound quite stressful. 😅

Thank you, glad you enjoyed! Yeah nothing like some last minute stress to keep things interesting.
