escape to the 3rd green house

By jwh on December 1, 2024 7:26 pm

i kinda overdid it a bit last week w/ the long song/ bandcamp release/ listening party/ etc, so emily issued a challenge to limit myself to 3 tracks for my song this week.  smile

i had fun putting this one together & i'm happy with the result, especially considering it was all recorded direct (well, it went guitar > Heather Brown "The Blessed Mother" > Warm WA73 pre > UA Volt, into Reaper) instead of miking an amp.

this was 1 track of the Mustang bass & 2 tracks of the Clydesdale aluminum-neck electric. i did cheat a little bit by copying the bass track and pitching the copy up an octave to mix in with the main bass track.

still on that convolution reverb trip.
also, really loving Airwindows' ToTape8 plugin. if you aren't familiar with Airwindows, check it out. Chris seems awesome, and nearly everything is released as open source and patreon-supported free software.

oh i almost forgot... the title this week is a nod to Green-House. i've found their music to be very calming & inspiring. i listen to them most mornings and the 3rd song on their 1st album — Parlor Palm — particularly sends me. ok!

hope y'all are doing ok out there. thank you for listening & for all your kind comments.

XO

heart heart heart

Head bobbing, head bobbing, head bobbing while feeding the daaaaawwwwwgs omg this is such a groove. Challenge met, I would say! heart

This is a lovely composition. The three (ok, four) tracks keep it wonderfully understated, and the performance feel so tight - love the sort of staccato phrasing on some of tie lines, with each part locked in. Awesome.

I like the sense of kinda suspense here that keeps me interested. Really nice sound you found and great performance. Great job!

skill level right there

Love to watch you in deep concentration, when you play. It was an academic piece of music. Very nice.

Sometimes it's nice to impose some limitations on yourself.  This sounds very full considering the minimal number of tracks used. It has a great sense of fun and playfulness to it as well.

I dig it, guitar tones were excellent.  Now off to Airwindows, love the idea of FOSS plugins
