escape to the 3rd green house

By jwh on December 1, 2024 7:26 pm

i kinda overdid it a bit last week w/ the long song/ bandcamp release/ listening party/ etc, so emily issued a challenge to limit myself to 3 tracks for my song this week.  smile

i had fun putting this one together & i'm happy with the result, especially considering it was all recorded direct (well, it went guitar > Heather Brown "The Blessed Mother" > Warm WA73 pre > UA Volt, into Reaper) instead of miking an amp.

this was 1 track of the Mustang bass & 2 tracks of the Clydesdale aluminum-neck electric. i did cheat a little bit by copying the bass track and pitching the copy up an octave to mix in with the main bass track.

still on that convolution reverb trip.
also, really loving Airwindows' ToTape8 plugin. if you aren't familiar with Airwindows, check it out. Chris seems awesome, and nearly everything is released as open source and patreon-supported free software.

oh i almost forgot... the title this week is a nod to Green-House. i've found their music to be very calming & inspiring. i listen to them most mornings and the 3rd song on their 1st album — Parlor Palm — particularly sends me. ok!

hope y'all are doing ok out there. thank you for listening & for all your kind comments.

XO

heart heart heart

Head bobbing, head bobbing, head bobbing while feeding the daaaaawwwwwgs omg this is such a groove. Challenge met, I would say! heart

This is a lovely composition. The three (ok, four) tracks keep it wonderfully understated, and the performance feel so tight - love the sort of staccato phrasing on some of tie lines, with each part locked in. Awesome.

I like the sense of kinda suspense here that keeps me interested. Really nice sound you found and great performance. Great job!

skill level right there

Love to watch you in deep concentration, when you play. It was an academic piece of music. Very nice.

Sometimes it's nice to impose some limitations on yourself.  This sounds very full considering the minimal number of tracks used. It has a great sense of fun and playfulness to it as well.

I dig it, guitar tones were excellent.  Now off to Airwindows, love the idea of FOSS plugins

Really nice and laid back.  Will have to check out that plug-in (though to be honest I have so many things to effect sound but am a sucker for different reverbs ) I have to have limits or spend way too much time turning dials.

A fun exercise in sufficiency. Sounds great, never gets boring, doesn't sound like it's missing anything.

Love the melodies you come up with! I'm such a sucker for plucky sounds. This track is such a vibe heart

Outstanding surf/noir/space-age-bachelor-pad vibe here! Really digging the syncopation in these lines, too. Beautiful work!

Cool challenge, and success! Fun good bouncing feels, I like the rhythms and interplay. I was tapping along and now I want to play drums with this smile

I can imagine various scenes from this song. It's wonderful.

thanks, Q-Rosh! and yeah, this one was maybe more brain-focused than some of my more loose heart-based tracks. hopefully it still had some heart though heart

i hear ya. i've been trying to keep a more limited palette so i don't get bogged down in options... i often find limitations bring inspiration. thanks for checking this one out, Friend.

that's nice to hear, i love it when music suggests visual images. thanks, KAMI!

Vibin! Amazing what you can do with 3 tracks. killer!

Love the groove on this. Great stuff.

I love the interplay between the guitars.  The intro gave me spaghetti western meets a sword fight vibes smile Even a bit of suspense and tension between the bass and melody.  Like you're walking a tight rope on some of those lines oof so nice!  The tone on the guitars sounds great and that pedal looks suhweet in all white so neat!  Awesome work!

Dang that bass sounds awesome, enjoying the intentional minimalism of this one. The section at 1:05 (and elsewhere) feels particularly potent. Big western vibes. Kudos to emily lol

That moment at 0:49 is glorious, had to replay that a few times, this has such a nice vibe to it, great challenge and execution.

Listened to Green-House this morning on my Fat Bike trail ride.  Great suggestion, the peaceful music fit right in with the beautiful scenery and fresh snow.  I rode for almost couple hours and didn’t run into a single other person.

I enjoy the minimalistic melodies here.  The tune kind of has a slightly less jazzy version of Tortoise.  Playful with lots of recurring melodies.

This progression with this guitar is amazing
