Magnolia Begonia (ft. Tone Matrix)

By miraclemiles on May 5, 2024 11:55 pm

This song samples from Tone Matrix's Scarlet. Thank you Tone Matrix for the wonderful music, and licensing your tracks here as able to be sampled, I licensed this the same.

I have been wanting to flip some of Tone Matrix wonderful piano noodles for a long time, like since my first year here in 2016, and I'm glad I finally did it. Maybe I'll try it again someday.

I'm picturing this as a bit of a springtime walk. Then stopping to change directions, smell some flowers, soak it all in before going down a new path and then just laying in the grass and gazing at the birds playing below the clouds.

oh hell yeah! great source material from Tone Matrix of course, but i love what you did with it. the drums are so vibey. i'll be returning to this one for sure heart

Tone Matrix and Miraclemiles mixed together!! A really great combo. This track has a good mood. Love your drumming.

ooh this image is a good match! I had in mind a kind of nebula out of which all the samples were coming out while listening. it was nice to read about the process. I think it's a good result, and reassuring when you talk about your doubts during the process, because it encourages others that a good result can come out of those doubts.

This is a sweet mashup.  Tone Matrix's noodles remain recognizable, but placed in the different context is like seeing them in a different colored light.  Great chill out track.

While listeing to this track, I could recognize the trademark percussion but I thought that the piano was different from usual. And here we go, that's Tone Matrix and his expert piano skills. It all makes sense.
I loved that track! It captures both your and Tone Matrix' styles, blending into something new. Thank you also for sharing the production notes.

It also does sound like a walk in the park in springtime. heart

Ack! I knew there was sooooomething in the works just didn't know my lazy ass needed to check this week lol.  I LOVE IT!  I feel like I got a sweet lofi remix that should go on those chillhop playlists.  But the melodies are there and it has a bit of a nostalgic feel to the original but stands on it's own.  I might be repeating myself from the email I said but thanks so much!  It's a cool feeling to have your own melody stuck in your head after hearing it in a different mix smile

I mean.... it's really just quite lovely isn't it? I appreciate reading about your struggle arranging and producing the track but the result feels very focused and refined - you found the idea you wanted to work with and expressed it beautifully. I'm in awe of how well the percussion and piano chops work together, the mix is fantastic and they really do sound like they were recorded in the same room playing together. Great stuff.

Thank you! Yes, can’t go wrong with some Tone Matrix source material! Appreciate the feedback  on drums, I’m always looking to try styles and approaches that bring the right vibe, sometimes works better than others.

I like the nebula image idea too, that’s cool that came to mind. Glad you liked reading about process. I don’t always spend time sharing those thoughts and notes, but makes me happy if at least someone appreciated, and I love reading about others process too. Thanks for the comment!

Yeah, a different colored light, that’s awesome way to put it. I think it’s cool when that happens via sampling and remixing. Hope you had a chill few minutes with this, thanks!

It all makes sense indeed! Yeah, no expert piano like coming from my playing. Glad you thought it captured both our styles, that’s awesome to hear. Glad you appreciated  the notes too! Thanks a the comment, and hope you have a good spring walk soon!

haha, yeah I decided to jump in and roll with this right away! Gotta move when feeling it. SO glad you like it. Glad I kept you melodies, they are sooo good. After chopping up I was like what, no! I bet it is weird to have your own melody stuck in your head from another track, ha. They sure got stuck in my head last week. Nice work on those sticky tunes!

Ahhh, thanks, glad you liked this result! Yeah, happy with how it ended up gelling like we’re in the same room kinda, that’s a nice result to convey. Great you thought mix was ok, I kept thinking drums ended up too loud, but now I’m ok with it, funny how that goes. Good to hear you appreciated the notes, through some struggle can come something that works, so that’s reassuring.

fantastic!  way to "power through" the creative block!

this really blossoms out beautifully!  so fun to hear you two together!

This has such a lovely arc to it, a really fun listen! The crazy vocal sounds, piano, and drums all work so well together. I really love the feeling around 1:50, feels huge and celebratory. I loved the original from Tone Matrix as well so it's extra cool to hear your take.

Oooh, I like what you did to this. The choir thingy really gives it a lot of punch.
Maybe you can do Q-rosh next. His stuff is really something too, which I know you're aware of.

Super well done! Love the idea of the live drums with the chopped samples. Very cool!

I feel so stupid that I've never thought that Tone Matrix samples would fit lofi beats so well. Yes, of course. It's a natural match. Kudos for the drumming, which is excellent!

Nitpick: there's some pop in the left channel at 1:42 that sounds like a buffer underrun, I don't know. And the end of the song seems like it wa

Lovely tune! and very interesting and relatable to read about the process. I now try to think of weeklyBeats as simply one iteration, a part of the process, like this is the version I'm able to bring this week so this simply has to be good enough, and that has helped to reduce some performance anxiety
