dead when they found me but i came alive

By miraclemiles on March 17, 2024 11:00 pm

Some good driving bass and drums on a sunny spring day sure makes me come alive.
This track builds from the bass stem from RPLKTRs Week 10 track "I Wasn't Dead When They Found Me" that he also shared for last week's Disquiet Junto project, part 1 of a 3 part asynchronous collaboration with other participants.
I decided to use his stem first for a full Weekly Beat track, then I may strip some of this back for the Junto version to leave for the third and final collaborator.
Played live e-drums with 909 samples along with the bassline. Took the takes I liked, but still plenty of human error to be found. Did some quick vocals. I thought RPLKTRs track last week was called I WAS (not wasn't) dead when they found me ... I started saying "I was dead when they found me but I came alive" something something etc. etc. Rendered it mostly unintelligible for some texture. Like last week, added some tracks of Ableton's Meld synth, slapped on some Roar distortion in various ways, and has some fun making this. Spring weather really decided to arrive this week, and I'm putting off some spring cleaning yard work to make this track, but I cant think of worse ways to spend a Sunday. Thanks to RPLKTR for the driving bassline track, and the Junto project and WB for the spirit of collaboration. I think collabs are a great way to get inspired and have fun. I hope to collab with more of you on WB soon!

Haha this goes in directions I didn't think this could be used in. Thanks for picking up!

Collabs are always neat, and it's so interesting to see the completely different ways they can veer off into.  Those crazy vocal sounds are really cool.

You nailed an alien invasion film score with this one. Nice.

So very true, collabs are always interesting and often surprising. I do love me some crazy mouth noises.

Ha, yes! That's what it is, I didn't know what mad scenario was playing out, but but alien invasion it is. Now I can make a fun AI image. Thanks for the comment.

Nice groove as usual and really enjoyed the frenetic feel of the drums as they dance around the main bassline. I agree with Q-Rosh it def has an alien invasion-sorta sound to it.  Some of those warbly lasery sounds and the textured vocals evoke that especially.

Oh that was a nice track. The groove of this bass was really great and there were some forks in the road that led me to believe we were running through a 5D maze. Cool breakbeats!

Ah yeah I now remember what the groove reminded me - some good old Muse!

Great energy on this one, nice use of that bassline, the heavily distorted vocals add a very nice layer, the image I got was of someone coming across a long forgotten robot of the past that suddenly blinks on and comes to life in a disoriented state.

Glad you liked the the drum and bass interplay, I had a lot of fun hitting the drums on this. Yes to alien invasion, spot on. Kind of goes with a book I'm reading. Won't name it, spoiler. Maybe its seeping in a little. Plus I watched Dune 2 last weekend, maybe that influenced too. Had the AI bots make me an image for this mixing the alien idea and Jason's robot waking up idea.

Thanks very much! Yeah RPLKTR's bass is awesome. Forks in the 5D maze, I love that. I think the 5D maze must have many forks! Yes to Muse, I hear that.

Thanks! Yes I love that image. When I mess around with vocals like this I think of robots, and they often sound a little disoriented. Thanks for that idea, used that and alien invasion for a little AI image prompt added above.
