Ceremony

Going to come back and add some more words.

Ha!

I came back to edit this description ...
and I added it all in a comment instead.
So, down there, in the comments, look at that.
That's what I had to say about this.

I hope you are all as well as can be and that making music this week brought some happiness.

Updating again after uploading the Disquiet Junto version (https://on.soundcloud.com/eKECwSkKlolC5Sj2w0)

I don’t really pay much attention or have any particular belief around the lunar new year, but it’s fun to learn about. Reasons to celebrate are always welcome!

Here’s some info I found on the year of Fire Horse:

Running from February 17, 2026, to February 5, 2027. Occurring once every 60 years (previously 1966), this rare year is characterized by intense energy, passion, and rapid transformation. It is known for fostering bold actions and independent, spirited, and sometimes volatile, outcomes.
Key Characteristics and Predictions for 2026:
Energy & Pace: The year is expected to be fast-paced, impulsive, and highly active.
Symbolism: It symbolizes courage, ambition, and freedom, but may also bring challenges and volatility.
Advice: Focus on strategy over impulse, as this high-energy year can lead to success or burnout.
Cultural View: While sometimes seen as turbulent, it is also viewed as a time for significant, positive change.
The last Fire Horse year was 1966, and the next will be 2086.

Hmmmmm
What did this become? I want a story for this to be a soundtrack to. I still need to think about it, but after editing and tweaking for the past few hours my brain is a little knackered.

How this one came to life: started with the prompt for this week's Disquiet Junto (https://disquiet.com/0737/):
-- "Record a percussion piece that fills the listener with anticipation for what’s to come. Imply forthcoming spectacle, thrills, and excitement."

Sometimes a prompt really helps get things started, and I liked this one!

I had a rhythm in mind for this. It's something I think I have used before, but I'm not going to go back and fined out.
Played the e-drums, recording the Roland sounds, some orchestral percussion standard kit sounds. Did some organizing and editing to get the percussion only arrangement that's probably close to what I'll upload for the Junto submission tomorrow. Then today started adding more sounds. Still trying to focus on percussion. Found some gong and metallic percussion sounds, some mbira, bass. Arps, effects, fun times. Kind of had some ideas, but just had to go with whatever came out. What happens happens. Mixing gets challenging as thing pile up. Fun challenges. Had a good afternoon.

Now I just need to find out what this is about. A ceremony for something, but what?

definitely saw the parade marching with the chinese dragon in my mind.

loved the ending and the ascending bass line!

Thanks for checking it out!

Yes I like that parade image with dragon! I just realized chinese new year is this week, year of the fire horse. Maybe that's what his is soundtrack  ceremony for!

Used the aweseome Melodic Steps device for that bassline, it got kind buried until the end where the parade winds down. I think I need a remix bringing that bass line out someday!

The percussion really drives this, but I like how the other textures slip and slide through the cracks.  Definitely a parade, marching type of vibe.  I'll vote for the fire horse ceremony.

this is BIG and thunderous! Love how that prompt sent you on this path. Nice work layering all of this together.

This sounds gigantic. The constant rising tension is really good at driving the whole thing forward and making it sound coherent.

Wow that is a HUGE percussive festivals. I love especially when the high instruments explode into the scene around 1:50. So much energy!

Woah i’ve been surfing the weekly beats this evening and this is the most unique I’ve heard

Something special about actually hitting things with sticks maybe I need to get an E drum kit after all

The non-percussion elements are cool too

DROMS

I LIKE THESE DROMS

GOOD CEREMONY

FEET MOVING

If this is what a Fire Horse sounds like. I want one.

oh yais love the groove of all the drums.  Some of those timpani sounds gave me some Bjork Human Behaviour feels. Love all those intriciate fills. Suhweet haunting bells at the end too.  I'm an earth horse tongue

Intense energy and passion, indeed! This is filled with so much exciting and suspenseful movement! heart

Those steel drums and the distorted synths really make this one for me - they're like a sudden push-pull away from the repeated snare tha really takes an interesting twist. Difficult track to make but sounds great!

here we go!

Huge ominous drums. I adore this.

In one of the old Civilization games a similar drum sequence would sound if you went to war with another nation. Don't remember if that was Civ1 or Civ2, but one of those.

The energy here is dense and menacing, and the combination with other sounds works very well to build a distinctly modern soundscape. So the end result is more "dystopian sci-fi urban chase scene" rather than "the Mongols burning down a village". I like it a lot and I'm happy to hear this new cinematic Miles this year.

My only nitpick is the abrupt ending. Leave that reverb tail be!

Nice, I could see getting pumped up to go war in a game to this. Have not played the Civ games.
Awesome, so glad you thought it sounded like modern soundscape. I love your description of the sci fi chase scene. Well now I'll have to keep exploring cinematic realms this year! Ableton default export always cutting off the tail. Gotta remember to extend, good ear. Thanks for the comment!!

Fire house it is then, sealed the deal! Glad you like other textures, needed something more than just drums, glad those landed ok. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah the layering always a fun challenge with my many many track songs! Glad it brought some thunder for ya! The Disquiet prompts can be really inspiring for sure.

Thanks! Yeah it does have rising tension, I hadn't really thought to do that, just kinds of happened that way, glad you noticed.

Awesome, that's really cool to hear! Oh yeah, actually hitting things is special! As a drummer, I don't mind some finger drumming, but nothing beats the sticks. E drums do make it easy, doesn't bother the family and easy to record audio and midi. Thanks!

Awesome feedback! yeah it's those steel drums and synths that I want to explore with more. Gonna have to go open that project to remember what I used! So glad you felt the push pull and it kept it interesting for ya, that's the goal!
