Special

By Minnamari on November 7, 2024 10:35 pm

This song is a bit of a spontaneous experiment. I wanted to make a song, but can't find the energy to do anything too elaborate this week, so I tried a new approach. I just opened my old notebook where I used to collect quotes in my twenties, and thought I'd see what happened if I would add melody to one of the quotes. Maybe I could make at least some kind of a song.

This was the quote I had written on the very first page, it is by the writer Chuck Palahniuk:
"We are not special. We are not crap or trash either. We just are. And what happens, just happens."

So I added some melody to those words (and couldn't help adding one more line of lyrics to the end). And that's my song for this week.

Aw, thank you. You too. big_smile

We are just food for earth... But still unique and awesome.

I really like those sketches, it is a bit like we are part of the creative process.

Take care, superb run this year. Lots of really nice tracks!!! Congrats.

I love how you did the vocals on this one!

I am getting the Radiohead `I am a creep` feeling.

Ah, I didn't think about that, but I can see the connection! Love that song.

Yes, I think there's something comforting about this paradox...
And I agree that weeklyBeats and this community has really been inspirational and encouraging, pushing me to make music when I usually might have just had a week of being disconnected from it. Thanks for being here! And for listening!

You added a really nice melody, love the soft playing

Thanks a lot, Bleeoop!

"We just are" ... love that! Indeed what happens ... happens. Some wisdom there. I like the uke and vocal melody delivery, enjoyed listening.

I enjoy some Chuck Palahniuk, I listen to/read quite a few of his books. Funny, last week I was driving across Washington state and I listened to about 30% of Not Forever, But for Now, and I returned it to library unfinished, his first that didn't pull me in enough to finish.

another lovely tune, Minnamari!

speaking of 'Creep,' a friend sent me this video of a "one day choir" singing it acapella in an abandoned basement in Brooklyn. really beautiful

That's interesting! In my 20s I read a bunch of his books and really found them unique and interesgint, but have since transitioned into a place where I don't resonate with his approach as much, maybe I "grew soft" :'D

Ooooh..that basement-acapella version of Creep is amazing! almost makes me cry. (ok, let's be honest, it DID make me cry.) Thanks for sending it to me!

We are each special in our own way, same goes with all our songs.
