ZSJ9- Jamie Let’s Smash up a Car

By Maritalstreep on March 1, 2026 1:39 am

This is last week’s distorted glockenspiel song with vocals…
I’d been thinking about The Smiths and how they had several songs with a name in the title- “William it was Really Nothing”, “Sheila Take a Bow”, etc, and I wanted to write a song with a name. Jamie is non-gender specific and has 2 syllables.
I felt the song is noisy and joyful, so I wanted it to be gleefully nihilistic like a Charli XCX song like “I Love it” or “Spring Breakers”.

It's a cute little tune. I like the idea of it. I do think the production leaves some room for improvement. Don't get me wrong, I get you're going for a distorted aesthetic. I am just confused by the small, thin sound. The lyrics are about smashing up something for pleasure, the perfect place for my deranged lust. So I would expect something that is bursting with energy. That is big and rowdy. That gives a jolt of energy and adrenaline. Just like the act of smashing a car for pleasure would do. Musically that energy is in there. But for me, the production doesn't allow that shine through. To my ears this sound lacks the gleefulness.

I think this sound could work well if the lyrics were about destroying an ex-lover's car. Or something that's done with a sense of shame. But not for an act of destruction for delight.

This is wholly my point of view, of course. So do with it what you will. I just thought I'd share it with you. I hope you don't mind. Anyway, keep on rocking!

Appreciated and totally valid! I have a lot to learn production wise.

"This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, places, events, and incidents are either the products of the author’s imagination or used in a fictitious manner. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental." wink

I think the relaxed vibes from the vocals work really well here on the background of noise and social distortion. It just makes it feel extra unhinged.
