there is nothing for you here

By MaisieMarra on March 29, 2026 10:36 pm

so, this is a song i'd already written and released in a way, but a few months back i burned my hard drive out and lost all of the project files, so for the album i want to write, i need to recreate them all completely from scratch. feel like it's a ship of theseus situation and this is allowed.

this is a new demo version of the first maisie marra song i ever wrote, it's called there is nothing for you here and it's about how love feels in small inescapable towns.

i did this in one day, because with everything going on i forgot about weekly beats to be honest. i think the vocal take is mid, and some of the mixing is off and there are so many little details i'd like to add, but it almost feels like i have my song back, and that's nice heart

i'm safe and staying with friends out in the middle of the west coast for a while until i can get somewhere permanent, so i'm stable for a minute heart shout of my friends dad too who left a guitar here for me to use; it's some squire telecaster thing with humbucker pickups and i thought it sounded cool on this track (all the guitars were recorded with it)

lyrics:
back of an old cavalier
jesus hanging on the rear view mirror
you don't know if it's love but
you told me that don't mean so much

our house is half torn down
living in some coastal town
crying on the kitchen floor
with no one else around no more

"baby you'll be happy
if you toughen up"
and maybe we won't have so much
but baby you will have enough

stumble down the street
feel me up at the bar
kiss goodnight from a cop car
small town con runway star

trying to forgive
dying to forget
but I'm gunna do something
we both know I'll regret

Really beautiful song with pretty touching lyrics.

The video is quite beautiful, also. I wish I could thing of things to film that are somewhat interesting smile

I really wish you get a new place so this feeling of being "between places" is behind you.

Excellent work, as usual smile

hope you can find somewhere permanent!!!
this is amazing, and it was made in only one day? so cool

Those super far away low distorted guitars are super cool with your light dreamy vocals on top.

And yeah, excepts for the free of Copyright material, I feel you will not go to the Weekly Beats Jail. Especially with such cool revisit of your song.

Beautiful!

hell yeah, love this song
hope you find somewhere very solid quickly. i have a feeling you'll land on yr feet

Guitar sounds great! Recently lost some stuff to corrupted storage as well so can relate. Best of luck piecing things back together and finding a permanent place

There's something intriguing about Maisie Marra being a radgie while all the songs are so tranquil and contemplative. Like, RPLKTR is a doomsayer, but the music reflects that in a rather naked way. So I wonder if there's a blackgaze phase coming up later in the year. I know I wouldn't mind!

Stellar execution for a day of work with a new guitar. Let's see:
★ flanged rhythm guitar
★ dreamy slides
★ a full arrangment with distorted bridge and a piano breakdown
★ touching lyrics delivered with top-notch vocals
★ gentle synths and trap drum machine that somehow gel perfectly with the vibe

Sums up to five if I'm counting right.

Another great tune heart

Wow so sorry to hear about the hard drive loss.  I thought I lost a chunk of music myself when I had my HD recently die too.  It's so inspiring to see you were able to piece it together and recreate it.  Nothing sounds mid here to me.  Love when the heavy guitars come in midway but oof the ending phrase and final 4 lines hit hard.  The piano outro is beautiful and with the tide rolling in it triggers nostalgic memories.  Excellent work and inspiring!  Keep going! smile

beautiful and touching. hope you find your IRL tribe and happy place. at least the music you are putting out feels like a band-aid to the soul of the world. the song and the lyrics feel like it's about something so small but also about everything. Not sure I can relate from experience but I can relate emotionally. Very cool drowned out atmosphere. thanks for making and sharing it!

A really beautiful and moving track- it sucks when you're going through the ringer, but music like this helps get you through! A great track, even more amazing knowing it was done in a day!

crazy beautiful
