gargoyle king (welcome to riverdale)

By MaisieMarra on January 4, 2026 2:04 pm

first time attempting this so hi everyone (:

i'm hoping to get a lot better at songwriting this year, and i'm trying not to obsess over the little things too much and just actually finish songs ^.^ i expect i'll be doing all sorts, some breakbeat heartbeat stuff, some maisie marra stuff heart

this first one is a maisie marra song inspired by riverdale. season 3 has an antagonist called the gargoyle king and i just think he's cute. stay safe from the ghoulies and don't play g&g heart

lyrics
when it's dark, you're a star
and i'd hear you call wherever you are
if it's just a game i'll play for you

they blame you, for the blade of the knife
when they drew the cards and they rolled the dice
your love carved in my back
my lips turn to blue and it all fades to black

x3
call late at night
i'll let you in
touch me again
all hail the king

everything you do is just dripping in ether

love the up front vocals. absolutely shimmering throughout the song.

this kills omfg...

so beautiful omg

Woah - the vocals caught me off guard!  Love your sound here.  Drum machines vs organic cymbal rolls are so on point.  Love the whole journey this one takes us on.  The guitar and piano at the end is such an amazing juxtaposition.  Looking forward to hearing more - best of luck with Weekly Beats!  :-)

Welcome! Also this is great.

Wow! Very impressive work!

beautiful textures incl the vocals! well done and welcome! can't wait to hear more of your stuff!

Welcome to WeeklyBeats, great so see you in here!

Didn't expect to hear vocals, but it's lovely. Is that you? Keep 'em coming, and enjoy the WB year, it's gonna be awesome smile

antler hi! long time no see!! that is me singing too, only started doing it last year really heart

Really good stuff! Welcome!

Really love it! Nice composition, I agree that the distorted guitar and piano combination is really cool. Oh and welcome!!!

i will not watch riverdale i will not watch riverdale i will not watch riverdale

Love the instant slowcore feels from the beat, guitar and your vocals.  Impossible not to sway and nod along and feel the lyrics.  The dropout with the dark piano and guitar at the end is excellent.  Might have to check out riverdale now.  Looking forward to more of this.

Too long! Shame I couldn't make it to that chip crew event and hang neutral

Welcome to the joy that is WeeklyBeats. Looking forward to hearing more of your singing!

for anyone considering watching riverdale; it has a 6.4 on imdb which feels both incredibly unfair and also 100% accurate.

Solid!

Love the arrangement with hard guitars contrast with the beautiful pianos. Vocals are nicely recorded. You'll see the power of deadlines does make choices way easier sometimes.

Welcome!

Gorgeous. Little bit of a Twin Peaks vibe that I love but oh so smooth and with sentiment. All hail the king! Welcome!

what a pretty song!

WOW, the vocal processing is SOOOOOOOO good on this track. The layered harmonies, the saturation... wow... welcome to WB, and I'm stoked to hear what else you grace us with. ლ(◉‿◉ ლ)

The atmosphere is so thick you could cut it with a knife. Love all the layering, that dreamy sustain, the visuals.

Fantastic vocal work.  Super ethereal and the vibe of the whole song is dripping with magic.

I watched the first few seasons of Riverdale and I couldn't make up my mind how I felt about it.  As someone who read a lot of Archie comics when I was a kid, it was interesting to see the direction they took with it.  The complete over-the-top ridiculousness of it was the best and worst part.  I mean, at one point Archie got attacked by a bear!  And that's just barely (bearly?) scratching the surface.

Anyway, welcome to Weekly Beats!  I look forward to hearing more.

your love carved in my back
my lips turn to blue and it all fades to black

These are my favorite lines. Vivid, and I love the lyrical color play. Very strong melody, beautifully performed. Bravo, and welcome!

i love this!! heart

wowow really really beautiful! street lights past the window type music

hell yeah, so floaty  heart

This sounds incredible!  Firt time around, I got enveloped in the vocal soundgauze and didn't even hear lyrics until later listens

This is a huge win. I would love to make something this impactful.

Can't wait to see how that looks like if your first entry sets this high a bar, Eve! Incredible vocals, the juxtaposition of dark in the lyrics with the warmth of the music, the "all content, no filler" approach. The song flows so effortlessly, but that takes skill and polish, so a nod to that.

No nits, no notes, five stars.

Your voice played against the noise in your music is just beautiful

Lovely ;_;

This is quite lovely. Conjures up a bit of Sea Lemon vibes, who I absolutely love.

Really like the bass and mellow distortion, nice tune

This is just great, love the juxtaposition of the vocals over the gritty textures underneath. amazing

Oh man, this is so pretty!!! Super nicely done! The electric guitar growl paired with the sad piano and melancholic vocals is such a great combo. Super nicely done!

the wind in the intro drew me right in - lovely piece

"i'm hoping to get a lot better at songwriting this year, and i'm trying not to obsess over the little things too much and just actually finish songs" - this practice (WB) really helped me with this - wishing you all the best on your creative journey this year Maisie Marra!

This is so gorgeous. I love the vocals and lyrics. Has me floating and feeling a deep tug in my chest and guts. So good!

holy heck this is incredible!  love the vocals, welcome to WB!!!!

Riverdale is not particularly my cup of tea, but I've played your song 4 times in a row. Both the melodic part and the technical aspects sound amazing.

I wish I could mix such noisy guitars into a song with the soft elements and not making a whole muddy mess

Excellent work, no doubt !!! Welcome to Weeklybeats !!!

This is really great, exactly what I need in my life right now

WOW! What an amazing debut for WB! I love this kind of somber music with big vibes and lots of reverb. Definitely adding to my favorites.

Also, I'm a huge fan of Riverdale, haha. But I haven't been allowed to admit that because none of my friends get what makes that show so good. I really need to give it a rewatch soon.

lol just wanted to say that i completely understand the riverdale hate. I absolutely love this show but when people tell me it sucks i have to hold up my hands and say "yeah, ur kind of right"

there is something so entertaining about how absolutely insane it is though. it's sort of just made of raw vibes without any real thought to the overall structure of the show heart

I'd love to know more about how you get those guitar tones - they're so good! They feel like a more bedroom pop-ish version of Deftones

thanks so much smile guitars are just the stock ableton amp plugin and some big cuts on the EQ. especially with the slides, the eq has almost nothing in it! here's what the rack looks like in ableton for the slide guitar. generally though i have quite heavy EQ cuts on my guitars and heavy compressors ^.^ learned a few new tricks this week so might have some more useful guitar tone info soon smile

all of your WBs this year absolutely crush. glad you're on here, thanks to the team who encouraged you to do so. we are all blessed as a result.

I'm with Tom (10k) here... These are great tracks!  Love the piano work... keeping it low down and the perfect notes.  The distorted bass plays an interesting part too - because it's kinda like a mid bass over a super clean bass line... and the two together work super well.  Great production, huge vibe.

Wait a sec... WB is playing tracks in the opposite direction to what I thought!!  (hence double comment!  Did sound familier tho!)
