Two Elves

By Lizenn on March 22, 2026 11:08 pm

Still keeping the numbers in titles I realized that twelve years ago was the time where I got in a fight with one of the most important person in my life never to see her again because I was dumb, sad and I felt alone, and that made me mean. It's probably the thing I regret the most in my life and I never really succeeded in letting it go. I still regret it these days even if I can't do anything about it. She was (probably is I guess) a great pianist and I was starting to play guitar at that time when we meet in high school. We used to play tabletop RPG, Magic the Gathering etc... She liked elves. Also at that time one of our friends picked up the irish whistle. That's why there's some on the track as well ! Since then I swore to being the nicest person possible everyday so I never make anyone suffer again.

This piece is kind of a memento of this past built around the piano, and with the guitar coming, and some kind of an apology letter. Lots of love everyone, keep the music coming, you're doing amazing !!

love the falling ostinato feel of the melody.  Gave me some Caspian/Explosions In The Sky vibes with the excellent guitar/piano combo.  The woodwind parts are really pleasing too.  Excellent drums and just a solid track from start to finish.  Well done!

that's such a sad story, and I can feel it in the song
it's so pretty, too

beautiful song and sentiment. i hope someday you are able to let it go, maybe this song will help you to do that heart
we have all done some dumb things in life.
let's keep going!

That's a great song, I think you captured the emotions perfectly

small nitpick: I'd change the volume levels a bit, first drum/cymbal hit was way too loud and, in general, I think the song would gain a lot with some volume adjustments.

But, again, great one!

Unfortunately it is a sad story. Thank you for feeling through it and for the kind words ♥

I hope so to but I kinda accepted it'll always kinda be there. Not all the time like the firsts years, but coming back from time to time. We do dumb stuff, but unfortunately that's how we learn. Thank you very much for your words !

Yeah I agree, I tried some compression settings on the drums but lacked time to realize how STRONG it became. I really don't know enough about mixing & mastering. I also should have split every part of the drumkit on a different midi track so I can control the volume of each element better but kinda was lazy about it haha ! But thank you very much, I really like this kind of nitpicks, help me grow up a lot in music ♥

Feel free to DM for some tips, but I never really split drums on separate midi tracks (I do use Ableton's drum rack, which gives a lot of control per sample). I tend to fiddle with each sample afterwards to get the sound fitting to the rest of a track. Something I've learned recently is to use light saturation (with negative output to balance loudness and negative "base" to not increate low tones too much) that makes drums sound better.

But volume I end up doing with midi velocity first, then, if not enough (usually too quiet big_smile ) I edit sample itself, sometimes adding more effects (usually filters/utility) to the specific drum rack sample.

If you're using Ableton Live that should be super simple to do, but I think other DAWs should have similar things.

Having said all that, I am also still learning about mix/master and I'm way worse with live instruments than I am with electronic/sampled stuff as I did it more. I know some things that work for me, but I might realise it's... not great once I get better big_smile

Holy moly!!

Such a beautiful track! Incredible drumming!! Beautiful guitar and elvish instrumentation.

And what a heartbreaking journal entry! But y'know what, it really adds to the narrative of the piece overall as the emotions are coming from a real place.

It's my hope that he process of making and experiencing art and music, we can get over the various challenges, traumas and heartbreaks that we experience.

Even though we've never met, and are probably only connected by this beat... I find it heartwarming to listen to this piece, read your words and feel pensive and reflective about my own life, growth, love and loss...

In the time I took to write this comment, I've listened to this beat quite a few times... and It's become one of my highlights for this year!

Thank you for sharing!!

Thank you ! :DD I'll probably never will work enough courage to dm you but giving the possibility is very kind !

I was kinda torn because velocity also change a bit how the drums sound via midi sometimes (it does on the kontakt instrument I'm using, I feel like). I'll probably try adding effects since I never really do that on drums to see how it goes ! Thanks for the tips !! But I was torn between liking the feeling of the HARD impact on the snare sometimes and the need to avoid clipping.......... MAN IT'S TOUGH

It is my hope too, even if sometimes I'm scared and feel like it'll never really heal. But maybe it's the case and it's a matter of accepting it'll always be here in a way ? I've learned a lot of things from this moment of my life and I really feel like I've became a better person, and even if I should be happy with it, when I think about it I just can't. But maybe it's just a matter of time.

I'm really happy you connected with this piece. It was always my goal when I started doing music 15ish years ago, being able to share my heart and maybe help even one people realize they're not alone, or feel better. I'm so grateful that I joined this community for this challenge because I've felt that this goal was impossible, but I guess I'm slowly getting there !!

So I really, deeply appreciate your message and thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to write those. Thank you so very very much !
