Speed Limit is (Not) 22mph Here

Hi Everyone ! Heat is going down, and it's GOOD. I used the only two days when the heat was tolerable to try to make a song. I played a looooot of Forza Horizon 6 this week while listening japanese bangers (and a lot of "Diamond Girlfriend" from IRyS ft MOTSU), so here comes a track inspired by all those ! It was not fun making it at first because I tried to replicate stuff I heard with no success, and when I started freeing myself, I just got wild and...Made Modulations ! :DD (so in the end, very fun to make, and quite happy with how it ended up. Kinda want to sing or rap on that one day, we'll see about that !)

Sorry if it get stuck in your head like it got in mine ! (And if you like automobile, please show me a video of you driving fast listening this track (no don't it's for the joke...unless you really want... :DD))

Have a great week everyone !!

This is neat! I love the sense of speed. I do feel the mix lacks a little bit in terms of bass. Think if you'd thicken that up a little it would really become a driving track, if you'll pardon the pun. But the composition is ace! I'd race to this.

Ah yeah I really have everything to learn in mixing (and unfortunately almost didn't do anything on this track because I just didn't had enough time to test around... shame... :DD). Do you have any tips on how you'd mix it ?

This is really Japanese sounding. I like the modulations at the end, and the repeating fast synth line. Good energy throughout, too.

I agree that low end could use some boost - maybe just a sub for bass would be enough?

but this doesn't change the fact that this is a killer song, you did capture the feeling very well! big_smile

Sure! Let me preface it with that mixing is a very personal thing. As in, there is no hard or fast rules. You can have a technically perfect mix that is totally wrong for the song. And a mix that's objectively terrible, but just works for the tune in question. And how a mix feels can change from day to day.

The way I hear your mix is that it's currently rather flat. And I would try to get to pump a little more. Like it's bursting at the seams with energy. Because your composition is big and strong, so the sounds need to support that. Me being me with my preference, I'd go for both distortion and compression. And dial that in to taste. It's not something to be subtle with. At the same time, it's probably easy to go too far this tune. So you need to do that by feel. I'd also bring up the bass and kick drum. So you get some momentum from those. Maybe tuck in the crashes a bit and bring up the hihats a tad. The rest is difficult to say as each decision influences the next. But I'd also automate some volume changes to some sections to have them hit even harder.

Anyway, I hope that is useful to you. And if you like, I'd be happy to do a mixing pass on it. To let you hear what I'm on about. Along with some notes on what I did to get there. That might be more informative than some text. No hard feelings if you don't want me touching your track. Just thought I'd put it out there because your tune is awesome!

Yeah I've learned that mixing has it's subjectivity, problem is since I know almost nothing, I can't have any vision which definitely is a problem since the mixing part can make a mid track bloom into something wonderful as I understood haha !

I absolutely get the global idea you're giving problem is I have absolutely no idea how to make any of that happen :DD ! I suppose I'll have to poke things around and do trial and error (that's what I did today) but gosh it's hard to not feel like you're ruining everything when you don't know what you're doing !

I'd be very grateful if you'd do that. Don't feel any obligation to do it, but I'm definitely eager to learn anything and would be very happy if you showed me the ropes you're using :DD

holy carps this was a fun and wild ride!
