Fifth Row in English Class

By Lizenn on February 1, 2026 12:27 pm

I'm having huge sleep trouble these lasts weeks and it became increasingly hard for me to create stuff because I'm running on minimum energy, and so I'm doing not-so great stuff (At least I don't feel good about it). This week, the objective was to make a Daugther-like song (I was supposed to sing but ran out of time and energy to really find anything) with recorded guitars. The process was painful, my rythm sense is not good at all so I should've move notes here and there so it falls better in the time because the guitar recordings on clicks are definitely not a thing I'm used to (Shouldn't have ditched the click practice during my guitar years) but once more, no energy. Tried also to make a 3/4 time signature, and wanted to make a signature change but broke my brain on it until I threw out the idea for the moment. Kinda happy by the guitar sound at least and got to experiment a lot and realize how many steps were still in front of me !

Congrats to everyone making it on week 5, and thank you if you took time to listen to my piece ! Take care !

Good job!
It's very refreshing to hear 3/4 that's not a very waltzy song.
Love the sound of guitars and overall vibe. It didn't feel like it's lacking vocals, it stands well on its own.

> my rythm sense is not good at all
the secret trick is not necessarily play to the click (check some of the Hendrix work), but to have all instruments fill well together. If everything is off from click in the same way, then it wall sounds good (same with tuning apparently, if everything is detuned the same way, it will all sound good together, but here I have no experience and I'm just quoting).

If you want to change time signature, the easier way is to count loudly
3/4 -> 4/4 would be
one two three one two three one two three four one two three four

it does take practice, but simplifies the process and makes it less scary.

This is such a nice track. So mellow and cozy. It feels like an autumnal day staring out across the city. Love lick that kicks in around 2:50.

Some weeks are a struggle to make anything, but we are all here in the struggle with you. Hope you get some more sleep this week - your music is great!

Of course, my major issue is that I don't record the drums or bass, I use Midi for that, and so it's way easier to work when the guitar is on click. Since I'm a beginner, making things easier is pretty much needed haha ! But I hear you, sometimes getting out of the time box may be the way to go ! I like to try to work around time signtures that aren't 4/4, and my lack of knowledge sometimes do wonders but also makes stuff very awkward when I try to interpret in what time signature a riff is. But I mean I'm here exactly for that ! Learning by doing ! Thank you very much for your advices and kind words ♥

Thank you ! I had those wierd classroom vibes like "getting bored by the lesson and looking out the window for the winter lights while being seated in the back of the classroom next to the heater" kind of vibe if that makes sense. But I love that it speaks to you.

Thank you so much your words brought me tears ♥

Wow, the guitar tones are so great. This builds beautifully. Your rhythm sounds good to me! Hope you get some sleep soon, but it definitely didn't stop you from being creative this time.

Great vibe, the perfect track to drift away with my thoughts. Hope you work helped you to find some sleep smile
Awesome stuff!

Sleep schedule is still a bit wierd but doing better :DD ! Yeah I was mentioning my rythm sense because I had to make SO MANY TAKES of each guitar part to synch good (and there are still some little mishaps here and there but I'm ok with those !) Thank you very much !!!!

It helped that I finished it but the making process DEFINITELY didn't help with sleep hahaha ! Thank you so much, so happy you enjoyed it !!

The writing for the guitar is excellent! As someone who grew up learning riffs, I enjoy hearing songs that don't just sound like a collection of riffs but a piece of composed music that develops to follow a story or mood which is what I feel like I'm hearing here. Great job!

Thank you very much ! It really means a lot. I'm trying this week to make a tune around a riff and it's so hard making it cohesive with other stuff. But I'll do my best and I'm happy you enjoyed this piece that's veeeery... me coded :DD

This song is giving me all the fuzzy feelings.

This is so great in how complete it feels, and the song-writing is magnificent in how it keeps my interest all throughout.
I feel ya on having 'minimum energy': not that it shows at all in your track, but the beginning of this year feels like such a drag(on everyone's spirits all around the world), yet somehow you've pulled off more than i could do...
and perhaps, rhythmic-wise you kept it minimal, but it still feels like that's the best rhythm for this slower and dreamy style of song... therefore, you've got the ideal rhythm for the right context, which means you have great rhythm overall -> good rhythm is simply about showing up with the right action, at the right time <- this is what you did in grand style here smile
On that note: thank you! your beautiful track here inspires me to keep going heart

I don't know how to respond... This is beyond anything I would've believe I ever get as a comment. Thank you so much.

First thing first, I didn't pulled more than you big_smile. No competition, just a challenge against oneself to create ! But I really hear the toughness of the beginning of the year. I don't know how long I'll be able to make a track a week because it's so exhausting haha !

I agree that it's about doing the goods at the good time ! I got lucky with this one, doing stuff I'm not used to haha !!

I'm deeply grateful that my works inspires you. It's why I want to do music, to carry feelings and makes others want to share what they want to share to the world. So thank you so much, reading that is giving sense to my work. Keep on going !! Lots of love !!

Every single good one.
