I Can Finally Rest

By lhrin on April 16, 2024 9:13 pm

I started this song after watching the movie "Still Alice". It provided amazing insight into the struggles of older people starting to lose their memories and capabilities. Although my mom is still doing really well at 96 she is starting those struggles after a very full and productive life. The last time I traveled to visit I greeter her and she looked puzzled and asked who I was. After I started to tell her she quickly told me she really did know who I was but her eyes and ears have become so dim that it was not easy until she heard my voice. We had a great afternoon together talking about our shared memories. She could remember a lot and yet I could see that she had also forgotten a lot. So I wrote this song in tribute to her. Great lady. If we're lucky we get to this place in life.

Beautiful song and STILL an amazing voice. Try not to lose that. Unfortunately, a lot of that summarizes my life and I'm only 65! The only thing I might suggest is maybe a short solo, or bridge to break it up a bit (?), but the song as it sits has a lot of merit! Nice work. smile

Thanks, I really am trying! It got to be a very long song but I will think about a break. smile

You had a lot to say! I can relate, trust me! I'm not dissing you in the least. Every song you've submitted shows a lot of effort, and has turned out nicely!

Sorry! I deleted something I shouldn't have!

I love this. Awesome intro, different instrumentation than you usually go with. The vocal melody and especially performance really stand out. I think this is some of your best work on so many fronts. Writing, performance, production. Great job making your voice really sit on top of the mix. Really shines through. Keep it up!

omg the beginning is very disconcerting, which of course was your intent!

in that same vein I wonder if you could incorporate a tiny dissonant chord (slightly unexpected note in a chord, or with notes that are closer together than usual), into part of the verse? again, I don't have the musical vocabulary and am probably describing this wrong.

very moving

beautiful song & sentiment. really like the tone of your voice.
