This song tells a true story about a friend I met several years ago after my move from Colorado to Southern Arizona. My friend and her husband decided to change their office from a home to a sail boat in their 50’s. After sailing the world they retired to Arizona but never lost love of the sail.

Verse 1
It’s summer time in the desert. I see the devils in the dust
I’m down by the river, my feet in the water
Someone’s coming down to share my trust
It’s Calista she was a sailor
In the desert now to get warm
For over twenty years the ocean was her highway
A sailboat was her home
Chorus
Calista, Calista, She’s a desert pirate
The stars brought her here. Now she calls the desert home
Verse 2
At 50 years she bought her ship and she memorized the stars
On her forty-six foot Trilogy with female crew she sailed
The first time Calista sailed; Two days out to sea
The storm glass started tubing down and the sea began to heave
Chorus
Calista, Calista, She’s a desert pirate
The stars brought her here. Now she calls the desert home
Verse 3
A wall of water right behind, wind roaring in their ears
A hundred dolphins surfed around
On the rollercoaster waves
The crew thrown from the beds at night
Slept on the cabin floor
Taking turns to steer all through the storm
To make it back to shore
Chorus
Calista, Calista, She’s a desert pirate
The stars brought her here. Now she calls the desert home
Verse 4
She never told about the hearts she broke
Or treasure that she found
She didn’t wear an eye patch, no sassy bird talking loud
But she saw the world from the ocean and the endless open skies
And she likes to remind me it was the best time of her life
Chorus
Calista, Calista, She’s a desert pirate
The stars brought her here. Now she calls the desert home
Outro
Calista, Calista, She’s a desert pirate
The stars brought her here. Now she calls the desert home
