A few years ago my mom down sized from my childhood home after 50 years. As often happens, she had a book of old photos and was about to throw them away. At about that some time my sister had lost her house in a fire and we agreed it might be better to make a scrapbook and send it to her. While we built the book I asked mom about some of the photo's I'd never seen and I was the happy recipient of some amazing mom stories. I loved those stories. This song captures a few of those.
‹ Lyrics
Born 1928 on a farm outside of town
They made a living farming that dusty ground
Only months before the crash brought the whole thing down
Ten years of the great depression was comin’ around
First of six farm kids to be born
Corn cobs burnin’ low to to keep the farm house warm
Dandelion jewelry used to adorn
Flour sack dresses to be worn
And all through the years
You let go of the tears
The wind in your face
Blew you to a new place
No TV but you could listen to the radio
Or into town to catch the latest picture show
You heard about the bowl where the dust would blow
And you walked uphill to school in the blowin’ snow
There were monthly school dances that you just couldn’t miss
And moon list cornfields to steal a midnight kiss
A good girl you’re careful ‘bout what you share
But got caught on camera swimming in your underwear
And all through the years
You let go of the tears
The wind in your face
Blew you to a new place
After the teenage job teaching in that one room school
Moved to the city and joined the typing pool
Met the man you’d marry on that first blind date
A new house, some kids, at 30 it’s not too late
Dad crushed in a car on the second big crash of your life
At the time I was there to see it cut you like a knife
But thirty years later you’ve done more than survive
You bloomed and blossomed and we’re all glad you’re alive
And all through the years
You let go of the tears
The wind in your face
Blew you to a new place
Not saving up the tears
Overcoming all the fears
The wind in your face
Blew you to a new place
