Piano in Duress

By lament.config on January 4, 2026 11:01 am

Damn but it's good to be back, I sure did miss you talented weirdos.

So it turns out I have a lot of samples of pianos being mistreated...therefore I took a few and made a low key dark ambient track.  I had an involuntary career change a few weeks ago and am currently spending a great deal of energy and time learning the ropes.  So the first few weeks/months will be shorter and chilled tracks like this I think.  But like hell I wasn't doing WB-26!!!

Made in Ableton

An unknown number of pianos were harmed in the making of this track.

Oh excellent, so glad you’re back for ‘26! Really looking forward to your music.

Absolutely love the ambience of this track - the sort of dark and foreboding you do so well. I love treated/abused piano samples, the sounds you can get are amazing…as you showed so well!

So excited for 2026!

ooof love the dark mood throughout.. the flaring towards the end gave me goosebumps.  Very cinematic! w00h00! glad you're back and exciting news about the career change.

Also, I showed your post to my wife - and she said, “I know you’ve missed your talented weirdos, too - you’ve been smiling all night.” She’s right!

Welcome back buddy! I am so glad you are throwing pianos into the unknowable abyss to meet the Old Ones, I can't think of a place they will be more, uh, happy.

This was dark and unsettling and wonderful in all my fave ways heart

delicious

this is fucking cool. rip the pianos tho hope they lived a happy life </3

I love this kind of ambient, where it's subtle and foreboding. Something is coming through from the Other Side...

I’m sure those pianos had it comin’ ໒( ⊡ _ ⊡ )७ … and if they didn’t it was a worthy sacrifice, because this track is awesome.  I love the tension that the distortion builds up to that first big clatter, and how that low drone saturates as you push it through the whole track.  This would be a perfect psychological horror cue.  I hope you settle well into your new gig, and I look forward to hearing what you produce throughout the year.

Aaawwww.... Right back atcha, buddy heart
I really enjoyed the dark atmospheric energy here. Short, but ominous and intense. Very fun!
Ain't nothin' gonna keep us from WB 2026!!!!

RIP to the pianos, but it was for a great cause!

Hope the career change works out and you enjoy it! The track is proper cyberpunk nightmare material. Subdued but deliberate. Well done!

missed this last week. happy to see this weirdo is back for 2026  heart

beautiful and, yes, spooky piece here.
it reminds me a bit of a passage from Sinéad's memoir that hit me really hard:

“My grandma’s parlor is verboten for me without adult supervision…I sneak in here often by myself because the piano summons me. It makes the air around itself vibrate in huge waves with just the slightest suggestions of colors so as to catch my attention.

When I play the notes, it sounds so sad. The thing is desolate. Once, at dusk, I asked it why. It answered, Because I’m haunted… Underneath the notes above, I heard a lot of voices jumbled together, all whispering over one another…

I shot up and said, “Who are they?” The piano answered, History. It said, They’re stuck. They can’t get out if no one plays me and I can’t breathe with them all in here. It said, I don’t mind if you play me badly, I just need to be touched. Play me very softly, gently, gently, only barely, because I am a tender thing, and the ghosts are very sore…The ghosts are things people don’t want to remember.”
