It's got a Death Curse

By lament.config on October 27, 2024 10:03 pm

I mean who starts October with Michael Myers and ends with Jason?  Living in backwards land I tells ya.

A good portion of my time this week was spent trying to create the famous Friday the 13th noise.  I didn't sample it from the film, instead I made it myself from scratch and I'm not unhappy with it.  Here's the thing - most people the sound is "Chi Chi Chi,Ka, Ka, Ka" which isn't correct.  The composer Harry Manfredini took the line from the original Friday the 13th "Kill her Mommy" and processed the Ki sound and the Mo sound which created the now famous "Ki, Ki, Ki, Ma, Ma, Ma".  So I recorded myself making a Ki and a Ma and went to town.  It was a lot of fun but used up a lot of this weeks very limited time.

From there, rather than doing some fucked up drones I thought I'd try an 80's synth sound cause I just needed more stress in my life I guess haha

Oh I also recorded myself doing Crazy Ralph line "It's got a death curse, you're doomed.  Doomed."  When I played that back...well I don't think I've ever deleted anything more quickly.

Made in Ableton on the tranquil shore of Crystal Lake.

Niiiice! This sounds awesome and spooky!!! Super cool!

Awww... As someone who has recorded plenty of cringy ass lines, I get it. But you gotta embrace the cringe, brother!!! Hahahaha... Jk, Jk...

Anyways, great work here!

This is great! Love how you absolutely captured the ambience - 80s string drones are perfect here. Nostalgic tension.

Also enjoyed the background of the “ch-ch-ch” sound design. Well done recreation! Great  track, and a perfect end for WB spooky season. smile

oooh such a cinematic creepy feeling with the ki kis and analog pad.  Neat bit about Manfredini, 'i did not know that!' smile

I knew we should have drowned you in the lake. Creepy as hell in the best way, and you've truly captured the tone in a way that feels true to the era it's from.

yikes

love this!

That hissing synth on top of the gloomy line is just what this needed. Excellent sound design! Wish it were longer big_smile
