Arsenic On the Rocks

By lament.config on June 30, 2024 8:11 am

Whelp, I'm sick.  There is a rather bad virus running through Melbourne and it's really done a number on me.

I wanted to do something big for week 26, instead I patched what I had started with one of my life long heroes - Vincent Price.

Audio Sample from The House on Haunted Hill (1959) film in public domain
Made in Ableton

(A bit of a personal note for anyone who cares to read it)

In November last year, at 48 years old, I got diagnosed with ADHD.  All my life I bounced from unfinished project to unfinished idea, the idea of me committing to Weekly Beats and writing a song a week for 6 months would never had been possible.  I have never put my mind, attention and passion to anything this consistently in my life.  I cannot express how huge this is.  The closest thing to this would have been my Masters degree which I was almost kicked out of twice and was 18 months late to be submitted.  I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has listened to any of my music, offered feedback or been an awesome person.  It means so fucking much.

I was excited to see where you took this - House on Haunted Hill is one of my favorites, and it has so many great samples in it (I’ve used it in a track before, too smile )

Classic horror movie drone! Unsettling, dark and foreboding - perfect atmosphere. Loved the Vincent Price samples, especially the end.

Also: congratulations on your diagnosis! Many of my friends and family got a late in life diagnosis, and it’s been life changing for them.

Great track as always man.

Rest up, hope you feel better soon!

And thank you, you've been super supportive since week one, and I appreciate it.

The ambiance on this is awesome, immediately pulled me in.  I hope you're feeling well soon.  And, congrats, I know how powerful it is to learn about how one's brain works, to realize it's not just that you're lazy, or weird, or whatever else we tell ourselves (or worst, are told)... and then to have like tools to reach for, because you're not alone in being some kind of way... definitionally awesome stuff.  So, really, congrats... we made it half way... and, you know the top a of a mountain IS halfway (for everyone who means to go home again), so let's all enjoy the view!!

That drone is simultaneously haunting, unnerving and relaxing all at once smile  At first you're like where am I and then after settling in with Mr. Price's soothing voice you let your guard down and look for more yikes  I hope you're feeling better soon and hell yeah we're halfway there you got dis! \m/ go team WB!

"...that I was playing too."
so great! vibe is thick here.
hope you feel better!

I'd love to hear that track.  It really is a fun film, Price is the embodiment of a true horror legend.
And thank you, kinda wild to get the diagnosis this late in life and contextualize all the things.

Thank you for listening, glad you liked it.  And cheers, it certainly does take a lot introspection but trying to understand the neurology of it all really has changed how I view things in the past and what comes next.  Brains are weird hey?

I kinda like the idea of a drone that makes you feel almost comfortable but uneasy at the same time.  And hell yeah team WB \m/ best decision I've made in a long time.

Thank you, I appreciate it.  Vincent did the heavy lifting this week...and I am ok with that smile

Nice work with WB then!  I think it's great for anyone in general but I can imagine super helpful for you to staying on track as you have to with WB.  Even if it's that one Sunday every week.  Haha.

Another cool track and tasty sample use.  Really adds to the track.
