Vui long cho ca phe nong!

By Kedbreak136 on November 17, 2024 1:32 pm

I used to go to Vietnam quite a lot for work. It's quite a fantastic country, especially considering their very harsh history.
If you have never had the chance to try Vietnamese coffee, I highly recommend it. During one of my early trips, I had a breakfast at an hotel in Ho chi minh city. One of these very nice buffets with lots of foods and delicious fruits. And coffee! This beautiful coffee with spicy aromas, which really tastes like a mix of cocoa and coffee. Very smooth and so nice to drink. I must have drunk about 2 liters of that coffee in the morning. I then went to the office, and of course in Vietnam coffee is also a social activity, so I went for another coffee with a colleague in a local cafe. Back in the office, I could not help notice that my hands were animated of a life of their own. I was super jittery. And then my system completely shut down and I had to go to the hospital. The hospital staff were wonderful and informed me that while Vietnamese coffee is very easy to drink, it can also be as strong as an expresso. I did manage to overdose on coffee. Which is pretty embarassing and lead to a lot of jokes of course from my Vietnamese colleagues. It has not stopped me from drinking their coffee though.

This track is maybe about this experience. The title means "a hot coffee please". I kinda like this track but I feel I let it down as it's only about 60% done. The transitions are rough, it misses some top melody and some main appeal. It's like the demo of a demo. I should revisit it one of these days.

I did not expect that story to end with you going to the hospital.  That's crazy!  If I ever make it to Vietnam I'll have to be careful, although I'm not a big coffee drinker, so I doubt I'd overdose.  This does have some cool jacked up energy.  If you were going to add more to it, maybe some tremolo effects would be cool to simulate that jittery feeling even more.  Nice touch with the siren sound at the end.

Wait... This feels like a very unique take on baroque chiptune... Hahahahaha, jk =P
That's so wild that you actually accidentally OD'd on caffeine!!! I'm so happy to hear everything was fine, tho.

I'm enjoying the gritty punk-y feel to the tune. It's rougher edges give it a lot of character. The drums and bass are especially nice! Well done here!

Hahahah, the closing ambulance sound is a very nice touch =P

Oh a tremolo effect in the middle with a psychedelic section could be a very good improvement! Good idea!

To be clear, I had to go to the hospital, just got some medicine and went back to the hotel to sleep it off. That was nothing too dramatic but still I was surprised that coffee can have THAT effect.

I had indeed started on the baroque chiptune piece but then, for some reason, I went into a funk rock track after stumbling upong a primus cover video. And the rule of the game is to go wherever instpiration pulls you. So into the funk rock rabbit hole I went.

I guess it is you on the guitar. A very powerful playing and a little nervous tendency I could discover in your song. I love the backstory and I am very interested to taste this coffee one day. You can do a research on L-theanin, it can help to make the coffee-effects less strong, so you can have a few cups more without being hospitalized. Have a good week.

I love the garage-rock feel with a little bit of surf & a touch of The Pillows. Tremendous fun! I read the writeup and managed to finish right before the track did, so the ambulance siren was perfectly timed

dang, Kedbreak tearing it UP on guitar!! \m/

looks like I need...

Wow! J'ai tendance a trop boire de café, ca m'est arrivé de mal me sentir, mais pas encore de trajet a l'hopital... Je n'ai pas encore eu la chance de visiter le Vietnam, a mettre sur ma todo list.

Great story, pretty fun track!

Sounds wonderful - both the coffee and the track! big_smile

after listening to your music, I am NOT shocked that you have at one point been hospitalized for caffeine overdose.  smile

I mean I'm glad you are okay, but like, this is like a peak Kedbreak story.

"I was hospitalized for too much caffeine and then a panda with a chainsaw battled a tiger with a flamethrower in the lobby"

great to hear the guitar!  the grunge bridge is hot.  lol i love a good doppler effect on the siren - did you pitch bend that yourself or is that all in the sample?

Oh this is fun, I'm getting down. I like the guitar lines a lot. I wanna play drums along with this. That coffee sounds intense. I can imagine getting buzzed to this song, and this is a soundtrack to a frenzied trip through the city ending up a hospital. Swirling lights and colors along the way! Way to follow the inspiration.

The energy on this one is so infectious, solid track, the backstory is great, I’ve never overdosed on coffee, but sometimes might have come close.  I used to love Vietnamese Coffee, however with age I do now find it a little too rich, more like a dessert, but now I could sure go for a Banh Mi Sandwhich!

Perhaps best to stick to hot chocolate next time.

First off, glad you're ok!  Secondly awesome coffee story!  I too love coffee and have been known to get a bit jittery when it comes to the local Cuban cafecitos here.  Love the bass throughout this track.  It's so energetic and had me bouncing along the whole time.  You can def feel the jittery frenetic pace with the guitar almost like the player is watching himself disappear ala Marty McFly as he shreds.  SFX +1  \m/

😂

Amazing track for an amazing story. I love it when tracks have a story like this and you can hear all the ideas and the development in them

Amazing coffee story and I love the use of guitars here.  Really adds energy to the track with that touch of jitteriness (coffee).  Haven't been to Vietnam but would love to.  I went to Thailand the other year and loved it!
