That Greek Island

By Kedbreak136 on February 8, 2026 9:15 am

Another brutal week!
This track was inspired by the Greek Island that appears in the book Sputnik Sweetheart by Murakami. It's an island beyond time, a strange place at the frontier of worlds, where the narrator looks for his lost love. Or maybe his innocence?

This track to be honest feels more like the sketch of an idea. There is something there but it needs to be granted more time to emerge. This will have to do for this week.

I actually like the minimalistic approach here.  The sound effects evoke the image of an island really well and the music has a haunting quality to it.  The bells/xylophone sound combine well with the cellos and the whole thing definitely transports me to a mystical place.

J'aime beaucoup le piano super loin dans le mix, de simples arpèges qui sont au loin du rivage. Cool vibe.

Love the melody and cinematic atmosphere.  Def feeling those mystical vibes!

this is great. i can certainly see how it could be developed more but its pretty damn good as is

what a VIBE Kedbreak! I agree with others, this doesn't really feel like a sketch to me. The waves really add to the emotion of it. Its the whole package

I mean, if you hadn't said it felt like a sketch, I would never have thought of it that way... I mean it's minialist... but it feels like it could have been pulled straight from the ICO score... like the melody plays so well with the field recordings, and sets a mysterious energy. I'm interested if you do develop it farther, but it for sure stands on it's own right now.

Love me some seashore sounds.

Some really nice elements on this one with the waves, birds, and footsteps in the sand, like how the cello comes in front and center then slowly fades away.

well done! have you played disco elysium? this reminded me of a section where I was exploring by the edge of the sea. I don't actually recall what sort of soundtrack that game had, if any. But the vibe was there.

This feels like a much needed break. But the harmonies in minor give the sense that there is still more to sort out under the surface. I can picture it! Nicely done!

wow, this transported me. i can understand not feeling it was complete, but to my ears it really works.

i like Murakami a lot, but haven't read that one. sounds intriguing!

Very evocative. I was instantly somewhere else.

The cello sounds so good.  Love the use of your sound fx in your tracks too.

This sounds like a peaceful kind of loneliness.

A nice trip to the aisles. Enjoyed. It was great listen in the background. I have been wanting to read some Murakami, have not read any. I have a copy of the City and it's Uncertain Walls, may have to pick that up next. What's your fave?

Very mysterious.

i was actually bracing myself for dubstep so i quickly scanned the track and then went back to the beginning and relaxed.

i needed this, thank you! sand footsteps are the best

Minimalistic track for sure, but it's not like that's a bad thing. It's a scene in miniature. The others described the vibes well here, so let me just say this worked very well.

Nitpick: a minor detail, but in the context of seaside field recording, the sounds of footsteps would have been much quieter than the crashing waves. Dialing that sound down would make it feel more realistic and inside-the-scene.

Really cool agree with the others I was definitely transported

The strings definitely elevate the piece a great degree.  I can hear those further explorations as good as this works by its own.  Here's to less brutal weeks.  I have several coming up so I'm squeezing in some listening now.

Thanks for an instant melancholic holiday.
